1

The Battlefield of the Mind

Establish why the mind is the starting point for peace, purpose, and faith. Students examine the Scriptural call to guard their thoughts, explore Marcus Aurelius's insight that 'we are what we think' alongside Jesus's own teachings on the heart and mind, and honestly assess the thought patterns currently shaping their inner world.

  • 1.1You Are What You ThinkIncluded
  • 1.2Diagnosing Spiritual DriftIncluded
  • 1.3The Renewed Mind — What the Bible Actually PromisesIncluded
2

The Hidden Life of Jesus — A Counter-Cultural Peace

Jesus spent roughly 90% of His earthly life in obscurity — as a carpenter in Nazareth, working with His hands, living simply, largely unknown. This module draws deeply on that hidden life as a radical, counter-cultural model for finding peace and purpose outside the noise of status, ambition, and performance.

  • 2.1Thirty Years in Nazareth — The Power of the Hidden LifeIncluded
  • 2.2Simple, Not Striving — Jesus's Relationship with Possessions and StatusIncluded
  • 2.3Peace as a Person, Not a FeelingIncluded
3

Interrupting the Noise — Practical Thought Management

Move from diagnosis to daily action. Using Scripture-based tools alongside practical cognitive strategies, students learn to identify, interrupt, and redirect the specific thought patterns — anxiety spirals, comparison traps, doubt loops — that keep them spiritually unsettled. This is where the Romans 12:2 transformation becomes a daily discipline.

  • 3.1Catching the Thought Before It Catches YouIncluded
  • 3.2Anxiety, Doubt, and the Spiral — Breaking the LoopIncluded
  • 3.3The Comparison Trap and the Distraction EconomyIncluded
4

A Rhythm That Holds — Prayer, Stillness, and Daily Scripture

Peace sustained is peace practised. This module moves from insight to infrastructure — helping students build a personalised, sustainable daily rhythm of prayer, Scripture engagement, and stillness that is realistic for a real, busy life, not an idealised monastic one. The goal is a Rule of Life light enough to keep and strong enough to hold.

  • 4.1The Anchor Verse Practice — Isaiah 26:3 as a Daily HingeIncluded
  • 4.2Prayer That Doesn't Feel Like PerformanceIncluded
  • 4.3Stillness — The Discipline Modern Life Most ResistsIncluded
5

Knowing Your Purpose — From Striving to Resting

Purpose that is grasped through striving exhausts. Purpose that is received through a stayed mind sustains. This module helps students move from anxious searching for their calling to a restful, Scripture-grounded clarity about who God made them to be and what He is inviting them into — modelled on Jesus's own unforced, unhurried purposefulness.

  • 5.1Identity Before Assignment — Who You Are Before What You DoIncluded
  • 5.2Discerning God-Given Purpose Without the NoiseIncluded
  • 5.3Living Purposefully from Rest, Not UrgencyIncluded
6

A Mind That Holds — Building Resilience for the Long Road

Peace and purpose are not destinations arrived at once — they are fought for, returned to, and deepened over a lifetime. This final module equips students with the biblical frameworks, community practices, and resilience tools to sustain a stayed mind under pressure, through seasons of doubt, loss, and change — so the transformation begun here becomes a way of life.

  • 6.1When the Mind Wanders — Grace, Return, and the Practice of Beginning AgainIncluded
  • 6.2Scripture Saturation — Hiding the Word in Your HeartIncluded
  • 6.3Holding Steady Under Pressure — Faith That Works in the Hard SeasonsIncluded

David Clilverd

Maybe you picked up a Bible verse — "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee" — and felt something stir. A quiet longing. A half-remembered sense that life was meant to feel less frantic and more held than it currently does.

I wrote A Mind Stayed on Thee because I felt that longing myself. The noise of modern life is real. The anxiety is real. The sense of drifting — of going through Christian motions without the deep, rooted peace Jesus actually promises — is more common than anyone in the pew admits. I wanted to go back to the source and ask honestly: what did Jesus actually show us about how to live?

What I found surprised me. Jesus was not a celebrity. He was a carpenter — someone who worked with His hands, kept His years largely hidden, lived without wealth or status, and yet moved through the world with an authority and a stillness that stopped people in their tracks. That simplicity was the lesson. Peace is not a reward for those who get everything right. It is the natural overflow of a mind that has learned — day by day, thought by thought — to stay fixed on Him.

Marcus Aurelius, a Roman Emperor and one of history's most searching minds, wrote that we are what we think. He was circling the same truth from the outside. Scripture lands it from the inside: be transformed by the renewing of your mind. This school is where those two ideas meet — the ancient wisdom of disciplined thinking, and the living reality of Jesus as Lord, Saviour, and King.

I am not asking you to become a monk or to pretend the hard things in your life aren't hard. I am inviting you into a practice — a daily returning of your attention to the One who is already holding you. Come and learn what a mind stayed on Him actually looks and feels like.
