A note from your teacher
Vernita Thornton, DBA
Hi — I'm really glad you're here. And I want to start by saying something directly: if you feel behind, or like everyone else somehow already knows how all of this works, you're not alone. Most people are guessing. They search "what to wear to an interview" the night before and hope for the best. They submit application after application and never hear back, and they have no idea why. They show up to their first job excited — and then get blindsided by things like a probationary period, confusing pay stubs, or unfiltered feedback that stings or deflates your confidence. These courses exist to change this situation.
I built Ambitions Career Institute because the gap between "I need a job" and "I know how to get and keep a good job" is real, and it's costing everyday people time, money, and confidence they can't afford to lose. Everything here is practical, plain-spoken, and built around the actual situations you're going to face — not textbook hypotheticals. We're talking about how to write a résumé when your only experience is helping a neighbor or working an event. How to answer "What's your greatest weakness?" without freezing up and being afraid. How to figure out why your take-home pay is lower than you expected. How to ask for a well earned raise without making it awkward.
Here's what I want you to know about how I teach: I'm not going to talk at you, and I'm not going to drown you in jargon. I respect your intelligence, and I know you just need someone to show you the ropes — clearly, honestly, and in the right order. That's what this course does. Every section ends with something you can actually go do: a résumé draft to complete, an answer to practice out loud, a goal to write down. This isn't passive learning. You'll be building real things as you go.
I also want to address the thing some of you might be thinking: Is this course for me? Absolutely! Skilled trades, certifications, entry-level corporate roles, support, hospitality, and even entrepreneurship are all legitimate, well-paying career paths and you can start today with a small investment in your professional development. This course helps you see the paths clearly and start walking with confidence.
By the time you finish this course with Ambitions Career Institute you will have a polished résumé, a professional LinkedIn profile, interview answers you've actually practiced, and a 30-60-90 day plan for your first months on the job. You'll know how to build a relationship with a mentor, how to handle a tough conversation with a supervisor, and how to track your wins so you're ready when it's time to ask for more. You'll be more prepared than most when they start a new job.
