C&D

Hey there, friend. If you've landed on this page, we’re guessing you know the feeling, you took a bite of something at a family reunion, or remembered a dish your grandmother used to set on the table without even looking at a recipe, and you thought: I want to know how to make that. Not from a box, not from a shortcut. The real thing.

That's exactly why we built this school. Dlayne and I both spent years cooking our way through American regional food, the recipes passed down in church cookbooks, scribbled on index cards tucked in the back of a drawer, taught hand-over-hand at a kitchen counter. We want to bring all of that into your kitchen, in a way that feels just like pulling up a chair at the table with someone who genuinely wants you to get it right.

Inside The American Farmhouse Kitchen, we start from the ground up, pantry, cast iron, and Dutch oven basics, and then we travel. We’re talking our Mawmaw’s Southern fried chicken with a crust that cracks when you bite it, Cajun gumbo that simmers low and slow until every spoonful tastes like Louisiana, Texas smoked brisket that practically falls apart, and Appalachian apple stack cake made the old mountain way. We bake sourdough, roll out pie crust, put up jars of pickles and apple butter, and fry up a country breakfast that'll make your kitchen smell like the best Saturday morning of your life.

We know what you might be thinking: "I'm not sure I'm a good enough cook for this." Friend, this school was made for you. We built every lesson so that a brand-new cook can follow along without feeling lost, while an experienced home cook still picks up something new. We celebrate the lopsided biscuit and the slightly-too-dark cobbler, because that's how you learn and honestly, it all still tastes amazing.

Whether you're cooking for two or feeding a crowd at a holiday table, whether you've never touched a cast iron skillet or you've had one for years and just want to use it better, you belong here. Come on in. The skillet's already on the stove, and there is plenty of room at this table.
