Know Your Ego
Before the ego can be quieted, it must be clearly seen. This foundational module helps learners recognise the ego's fingerprints in their own thoughts, words, and relationships — distinguishing the 'I want' voice from Spirit-led impulses — so they can name what they are working to transform.
- 1.1The Ego UnmaskedIncluded
- 1.2Pride, Insecurity, and the Same RootIncluded
- 1.3Ego in Relationships: Power, Approval, and ControlIncluded
The Two 'I Am' Identities
This is the theological and experiential heart of the course. Learners explore the scriptural teaching of two identities living within the believer — the ego's 'I am' (self-constructed, fragile, performance-based) and the Spirit's 'I Am' (rooted in Christ, unshakeable, given not earned). Understanding this distinction is the turning point from which everything else flows.
- 2.1The Ego's 'I Am': A Self Built on SandIncluded
- 2.2The Spirit's 'I Am': Your Unshakeable FoundationIncluded
- 2.3Living from the Inside OutIncluded
The Daily Practice: Quieting the 'I Want' Voice
Insight without practice changes nothing. This module gives learners a simple, repeatable, faith-based daily system to catch the ego's 'I want' voice before it drives their decisions — replacing it with the 'How can I help?' orientation of Spirit-led living. It is deliberately practical and habit-focused.
- 3.1The 'I Want' Voice: Catching It in Real TimeIncluded
- 3.2The Morning Anchor: A Five-Minute Ego-Reset RoutineIncluded
- 3.3The Evening Examen: Reviewing the Day with Honest EyesIncluded
From 'I Want' to 'How Can I Help?'
This module makes the pivotal shift from ego-centric living to service-centred living — not as self-denial or martyrdom, but as the path to the deepest, most stable confidence. Learners discover that paradoxically, giving up the hunger for power, approval, and control is what finally frees them from anxiety about those very things.
- 4.1The Servant Paradox: Why Helping Heals the HelperIncluded
- 4.2Replacing Power with Influence, Approval with IntegrityIncluded
- 4.3Finding Your Service StrengthsIncluded
Grounded Under Fire: Ego, Conflict, and Criticism
The ego's defences are most fierce when we are criticised, opposed, or have failed. This module equips learners with specific, faith-rooted tools to navigate conflict, criticism, and failure from their Spirit 'I Am' foundation — so that the hardest moments become the greatest evidence of genuine transformation.
- 5.1When the Ego Fights Back: Understanding Defensive ReactionsIncluded
- 5.2Receiving Criticism as a Spiritual DisciplineIncluded
- 5.3Failing Forward: Staying Grounded When You Fall ShortIncluded
Sustaining the Journey: A Rhythm for Ego-Reduced Living
Transformation is not an event — it is a sustained rhythm. This final module helps learners consolidate everything they have practised, design a long-term personal rule of life for ego-reduced living, build accountability into their ongoing journey, and anchor their confidence permanently in the Spirit's 'I Am' — carrying the course's breakthrough beyond the final lesson.
- 6.1Designing Your Personal Rule of LifeIncluded
- 6.2Community, Accountability, and the Long GameIncluded
- 6.3Celebrating Growth and Carrying the Confidence ForwardIncluded

David Clilverd
Maybe you picked up this page because something in the title rang true. You've read the books, said the prayers, done the work — and yet there's still a voice inside that wants to be right, wants to be recognised, wants to be in control. I know that voice well. I've lived with it. And I've learned, slowly and sometimes painfully, that fighting it head-on only makes it louder.
What shifted things for me was a question: What if confidence was never supposed to come from the ego at all? What if the striving, the comparing, the grasping for power that we dress up as ambition or even ministry — what if all of that is actually the counterfeit version of the strength we were made for?
That question is what led me to write Beyond the Ego — and it's what this school is built around. Inside you there are two "I Am's." The first is the ego-self: restless, hungry, and always keeping score. The second is the spiritual self — the deeper identity that Christians know through the indwelling Christ, the "I Am" who said I am the way, the truth, and the life. That second "I Am" is already in you. It doesn't need to win arguments or earn approval. It simply serves, loves, and stands.
The work of this school is learning to tell those two voices apart — and choosing, day by day, to live from the deeper one. I won't pretend it's quick or painless. But I will tell you this: the confidence you find on the other side of ego is unlike anything the world's success formulas can offer. It's quiet. It's durable. And it's genuinely free.
If you're tired of performing confidence you don't feel, or tired of swinging between arrogance and self-doubt, I'd like to walk this road with you. Come as you are. The deeper "I Am" will meet you there.
