Foundations of Literacy & Multilingual Communication
A Pre-K–5 integrated ELA and Foreign Language module grounded in the IB transdisciplinary framework. Students develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English alongside a credit-bearing second language, using culturally rich texts and real-world communication tasks. UDL flexible pathways ensure every learner accesses grade-level content, while SEL routines anchor each lesson in identity, empathy, and voice. TAG extensions push advanced readers and writers into deeper literary analysis and independent multilingual research.

Scientific Inquiry, Environmental Stewardship & IB Transdisciplinary Science
A Pre-K–5 science module built on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Three-Dimensional Learning framework and IB transdisciplinary themes, developing students as genuine scientists who observe, question, design investigations, collect data, and construct evidence-based explanations. Environmental stewardship runs as a sustained thread through all three domains — life, physical, and earth/space science — so students internalize their agency as caretakers of the natural world. UDL supports (visual models, hands-on labs, digital simulations) ensure full access; TAG extensions offer independent research design and citizen science participation. SEL focus: wonder, intellectual humility, and collaborative sense-making.

Social Studies, Global Citizenship & IB How We Organize Ourselves
A Pre-K–5 social studies module that develops students as informed, engaged, and compassionate global citizens through the lenses of community, civics, geography, and economics — all framed by the IB transdisciplinary theme 'How We Organize Ourselves.' Primary sources, maps, economic data, and diverse cultural narratives build disciplinary literacy. SEL skills (perspective-taking, civic responsibility, collaborative decision-making) are explicitly woven into every lesson. UDL ensures access through multiple text formats, visual timelines, and choice in demonstrating understanding. TAG extensions provide depth through historical inquiry projects and policy analysis.
- 4.1Historical Thinking & Primary Source LiteracyIncluded

Social-Emotional Learning, Mindset & Whole-Child Wellness
A dedicated Pre-K–5 SEL module aligned to the CASEL framework's five core competencies — self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making — delivered through structured daily routines, explicit skill lessons, and reflective practices embedded throughout every academic course. This module does not replace academic learning; it teaches the emotional and social skills that make rigorous academic engagement possible. IB Learner Profile attributes (balanced, reflective, caring, principled) are explicitly connected to each SEL competency. UDL ensures SEL skill practice is accessible through multiple modes (verbal, written, artistic, kinesthetic). TAG extension: peer mentorship program and leadership project design.

Creative Problem-Solving, Gifted Extensions & Inclusive Innovation
A Pre-K–5 cross-curricular strand that serves triple duty: (1) it deepens creative, divergent-thinking, and invention skills through Odyssey of the Mind-style challenge-based learning for ALL students; (2) it provides structured TAG acceleration, enrichment, and independent research extensions for identified gifted learners; and (3) it operationalizes UDL's three core principles (multiple means of representation, action and expression, and engagement) as an explicit curriculum design framework that benefits every learner in every course. This module culminates in the Year-End Innovation Showcase — the integrative capstone that demonstrates mastery across all five previous modules. SEL integration: creative courage, collaborative risk-taking, and celebrating diverse forms of excellence.

Pauline Smith EdD
Dear families,
I want to start by saying something simple: I see you. Whether you're here because your child is bored and needs more, or because they're struggling and need something different, or because a move made your old school impossible, or because you've always believed there was a better way — you made the right call to keep looking. That search ends here.
At Bright Meridian Academy, we built something we couldn't find anywhere else: a virtual elementary school that is genuinely rigorous and genuinely warm. Not one or the other. Both, every single day. Our teachers don't just deliver content — they build relationships. Our curriculum doesn't just cover standards — it connects every standard to a big idea worth caring about. When your child studies weather patterns in Earth & Space Science, they're also learning about stewardship. When they work through a MESA engineering design challenge, they're also practicing resilience and collaborative problem-solving. That's the IB way, and it's woven into every lesson we teach.
I also want to be honest with you about something most schools won't say out loud: not every child fits the same mold, and a school that pretends otherwise is failing someone. Every course at Bright Meridian is built on Universal Design for Learning principles — which means we start by assuming difference is normal, not an obstacle to manage. Your gifted child has TAG extension pathways waiting for them. Your child who needs more time or a different approach has structured scaffolding built right into the lesson, not pulled out of a filing cabinet as an afterthought. And every child — every single one — ends the year at the Innovation Showcase, presenting something they made, something they're proud of.
Foreign language starts in Pre-K. SEL isn't a Friday add-on; it's woven into the fabric of Monday through Friday. Creative problem-solving — the Odyssey of the Mind kind, where there is no single right answer — is a real, graded academic strand. And the social studies, science, and literacy units are connected by IB Central Ideas that make your child feel like they're studying something that matters, not just preparing for a test.
We are not a supplement. We are not a stopgap. Bright Meridian Academy is a school — with a community, a roster of expert educators, a full academic calendar, and a genuine commitment to the whole child. We'd love to welcome your family. Come in, look around, and when you're ready — we'll be here, with the door wide open.
With warmth and confidence in your child, The Bright Meridian Academy Team
