Cicley Gay
If you're reading this, I already know something about you. You're not in this for the title or the office. You're in it because you saw a need in your community that no one else was filling, and you decided to do something about it. Maybe you've already started. Maybe you're still in the planning stage. Either way, you've probably hit the moment where passion alone stops being enough.
I've been in nonprofit leadership long enough to know what separates organizations that grow from organizations that stall. It's rarely the mission. Most of the time, it's the infrastructure, or the lack of it. A board that doesn't know what it's supposed to do. A budget that doesn't tell the truth. Programs that are hard to describe to a funder because they were never fully designed. Policies that don't exist yet. Impact data that was never collected. These aren't failures of heart. They're gaps in structure. And they're completely fixable.
That's why I built this school. Not to hand you a generic nonprofit checklist, but to walk alongside you. From the very first question ("What problem are we actually solving?") all the way to the moment you can look a program officer in the eye and say: we are ready. We'll work through your mission and theory of change, design programs that are actually deliverable, build a board with real roles and real expectations, create an honest budget, put the right policies and systems in place, tell your story in a way that moves people, measure your impact in a way that means something, and lay the full foundation that funders require before they invest.
I want to be direct with you: this school asks real work of you. Not busywork, real organizational work that results in documents, decisions, and systems your organization will use. But if you're willing to do that work, you'll come out the other side with something most nonprofits take years to build, if they ever do. Your mission is too important to run on faith and spreadsheets alone. Let's build it right.
