Chemistry Mastery Academy: UCE Edition
A storytelling-powered Chemistry course built specifically for Ugandan UCE students — master every NCDC topic with deep scientific understanding, real-life examples, and the precise language that earns top grades.

What you'll learn
What you'll be able to do
- Demonstrate deep conceptual understanding of all major NCDC UCE Chemistry topics, from atomic structure to organic chemistry
- Use precise scientific language and terminology to write exam answers that earn full marks from UNEB examiners
- Connect every chemistry concept to a real-life context drawn from Uganda and everyday East African life
- Confidently perform and interpret chemical calculations including mole calculations, stoichiometry, and concentration problems
- Explain and predict chemical reactions — including acids and bases, redox, and electrolysis — from first principles
- Identify and describe industrial and environmental chemistry applications relevant to Uganda (e.g., the Hima Cement works, Lake Katwe salt extraction)
- Construct and balance chemical equations with accuracy and explain what they communicate
- Approach UNEB Chemistry past paper questions with a structured, confident strategy and score consistently in Grade 1–2 range

The World Is Made of Chemistry — Introduction to Matter and Particles
We open the course with a powerful story: everything you can touch, taste, smell, or breathe is chemistry in action. This module builds the foundational understanding of matter, its states, particle theory, and atomic structure — framed through everyday Ugandan contexts like cooking, weather, and the behaviour of charcoal.
- 1.1What Is Matter? The Story of Everything Around YouIncluded
- 1.2States of Matter: Why Water in a Pot Behaves Differently from Water in a CloudIncluded
- 1.3Inside the Atom: The Tiny Particles That Run the UniverseComing soon
- 1.4Isotopes, Relative Atomic Mass, and Why Chlorine Has a DecimalComing soon
The Periodic Table — Chemistry's Most Powerful Map
The Periodic Table is not a wall of symbols to memorise — it is a map of patterns and relationships. This module uses storytelling to walk students through the history of the Periodic Table, periodic trends, and the chemistry of key groups, all anchored in the NCDC syllabus.
- 2.1Mendeleev's Gamble: The Story Behind the Periodic TableComing soon
- 2.2Periodic Trends: Why Elements in the Same Column Behave Like FamilyComing soon
- 2.3Bonding: The Chemistry of RelationshipsComing soon
Chemical Reactions — When Matter Tells a New Story
This module brings chemical reactions to life through the stories of transformations happening all around Uganda — iron rusting on a gate, cassava fermenting, fireworks lighting up the sky. Students master types of reactions, rates of reaction, energy changes, and chemical equations.
- 3.1Writing and Balancing Chemical Equations: The Language of ChangeComing soon
- 3.2Rates of Reaction: Why Matoke Cooks Faster in a Pressure CookerComing soon
- 3.3Energy in Reactions: Exothermic, Endothermic, and the Story of FireComing soon
- 3.4Oxidation, Reduction, and Redox: The Story of Rust and BleachComing soon
Acids, Bases, and Salts — Chemistry in Your Kitchen and Clinic
This is one of the most heavily examined topics in UNEB UCE Chemistry. Using stories from Ugandan kitchens, hospitals, and agriculture (soil pH and crop yield), students master the properties of acids and bases, neutralisation, preparation of salts, and titration calculations.
- 4.1Acids and Bases: The Story of Sour and BitterComing soon
- 4.2Preparing Salts: Three Methods, One Story of NeutralisationComing soon
- 4.3Titration and Calculations: The Maths Behind the MedicineComing soon
Electrochemistry — Harnessing the Power of Chemical Change
Electrolysis is one of the most fascinating — and most misunderstood — topics in UCE Chemistry. This module uses the stories of Lake Katwe salt extraction, metal plating industries in Kampala, and how car batteries work to make electrochemistry concrete and memorable.
- 5.1Electrolysis: Splitting Compounds with ElectricityComing soon
- 5.2Industrial Applications of Electrolysis in Uganda and BeyondComing soon
- 5.3Electrochemical Cells and Simple CellsComing soon
Organic Chemistry and Industrial Processes — Chemistry Meets the Real Uganda
The final module brings together organic chemistry (hydrocarbons, functional groups, polymers) and Ugandan industrial chemistry (Hima Cement, petroleum products, nitrogen fertilisers). This is where students see chemistry as the engine behind their nation's economy — and consolidate everything for the UNEB exam.
- 6.1Carbon Compounds: The Chemistry Behind Petrol, Plastic, and FoodComing soon
- 6.2Reactions of Organic Compounds: Addition, Substitution, and FermentationComing soon
- 6.3Polymers and Plastics: The Chemistry Behind Every Plastic Bag in KampalaComing soon
- 6.4Industrial Chemistry in Uganda: Cement, Fertilisers, and the Haber ProcessComing soon

A note from your teacher
Joseph Katenta
My name is [Teacher Name], and I have spent [X] years teaching Chemistry to UCE students across Uganda. I have watched brilliant students fail not because they lacked intelligence, but because nobody ever made Chemistry feel real to them. That frustration is what drove me to build Chemistry Mastery Academy. I believe that every concept in chemistry — from the tiniest electron to the largest industrial reaction — has a story behind it, and when you hear that story first, the science clicks in a way that no amount of cramming can replicate. I teach with the NCDC syllabus in one hand and the real world in the other, and my goal is simple: that by the time you sit your UNEB paper, Chemistry feels less like a subject you studied and more like a language you speak fluently. Welcome to the Academy — let's begin.
