Ivonne Ramos

Maybe you have sat across a chess board and felt that quiet, slightly embarrassing moment — the one where you move a piece and immediately know you have made a mistake, but you cannot quite explain why. Or perhaps you are a parent watching your child light up at the sight of the pieces, and you want to give them a real foundation, not just a set of rules you half-remember yourself.

I have been in both of those places. And I have spent years sitting across the board from beginners, intermediate players, curious kids, and ambitious adults — and the single most common thing I hear is this: "I know how to play, but I don't really understand what I'm doing." That gap between moving pieces and genuinely thinking is exactly what Chess Master Academy is built to close.

Here is what I believe with everything I have: chess is one of the most complete intellectual gifts you can give yourself or a child. It builds pattern recognition, long-term thinking, emotional resilience, and the ability to sit quietly with a hard problem and work through it — skills that transfer far beyond the board. But only if you learn it the right way. That means understanding where the game came from — from ancient Persia and Arabia through the great European masters to today's global stage. It means studying the players who shaped it, including the remarkable women whose contributions history has too often overlooked. And it means actually playing, reflecting honestly on what happened, and going again.

That is why the Live Chess Lab sits at the centre of this academy. I am not interested in students who can recite openings but freeze in a real game. I want you to sit down, play a full game against a computer opponent, and then walk through every critical decision together — not to feel bad about what you missed, but to start seeing the board in a new way. That coached loop of play, analyse, improve is the fastest path I know to genuine chess growth, and we build it into your practice from day one.

For parents, I want to say something directly: you do not have to be a strong chess player to raise one. The Raising a Chess Wizard pathway gives you a clear, structured, milestone-driven roadmap — from the very first age-appropriate introduction all the way to scholastic tournaments, the search for the right coach, and a long-term vision for your child's development. You just have to be willing to sit at the board with them.

This academy is for the curious, the ambitious, and the patient — for anyone who suspects that chess has more to teach them than they have yet learned. I cannot wait to show you what the game really looks like when you understand it. Come join us at the board.
