Wanda Holmes
If you've ever opened your program's handbook and thought, "I hope nobody actually reads this closely" — I want you to know that feeling is more common than you think, and it's exactly why I built this course.
Running a childcare program means carrying an enormous amount of responsibility: for the children in your care, for the families who trust you with them, and for the staff who show up every day to do genuinely hard work. Your handbooks are supposed to hold all of that together. They're supposed to answer the questions before they get asked, set the expectations before a misunderstanding becomes a conflict, and protect your program when something doesn't go as planned. But most of us wrote our first handbook by copying a template we found online, or inherited a binder from whoever had the job before us, and we've been quietly patching it ever since.
Here's what I've seen over and over again: the programs that feel most chaotic — where families push back on policies, where staff aren't sure what's expected of them, where an incident creates a scramble — almost always have documentation problems underneath. Not bad people. Not bad intentions. Just handbooks that were never really built to do the job. And the programs that feel calm, consistent, and professional? They've done the work of writing things down clearly, and they've built systems to keep those documents alive.
That's what this course teaches. We go section by section through both your family handbook and your staff handbook — not just what to include, but how to write it in language that real people will actually read and understand. We cover the policies that protect you legally, the routines that keep children safe, and the onboarding workflows that make your handbooks useful from day one instead of sitting in a filing cabinet. And we build you a review process so this isn't a once-every-five-years project, but something your program genuinely maintains.
You don't need to be a lawyer. You don't need to be a professional writer. You just need to care about your program — and I'm guessing you wouldn't be here if you didn't. Come build something you're proud to hand to a new family or a new staff member on their very first day.
