Shari Johnson
If you've ever handed your phone to someone younger just to avoid the frustration — or quietly avoided a doctor's portal, an online job application, or a bank's website because it felt too risky or too confusing — I want you to know something: that feeling isn't a reflection of your intelligence. It's a reflection of the fact that nobody ever sat down and explained it to you clearly. That's exactly what this program is here to do.
I created Connected & Confident because I kept seeing the same thing: smart, capable adults who had been left out of the digital conversation simply because the people teaching technology kept forgetting what it felt like not to know it yet. The lessons were too fast, the words were too technical, and the attitude — even when it wasn't meant to be — made learners feel like they'd missed something they should have already known. I wanted to build something different. Something patient, honest, and genuinely useful.
This program covers everything that matters most in daily digital life. You'll get comfortable with your smartphone or tablet — not just the basics, but the things that actually make a difference, like managing your contacts, connecting to Wi-Fi, and using the apps that keep you organized. You'll learn how to protect yourself online, because scams are real and knowing what to look for changes everything. You'll be able to handle your banking, pay bills, and spot fraud before it happens. You'll access your healthcare online, message your care team, and join a video appointment without the panic. And if you're looking for work, you'll know exactly how to build a resume, find openings, and apply — professionally and confidently.
I also want to be honest with you: this isn't a program that will rush you through topics just to say you covered them. Every section is built to let you go at your own pace, revisit anything you need, and actually feel ready before you move on. There's no test you can fail. There's no moment where you're made to feel behind.
Whether you're enrolling for yourself or you're an organization bringing this training to your community — thank you for being here. Every person who finishes this program gains something real: the ability to handle more of their own life, on their own terms, without needing to ask for help with every little thing. That independence is worth every minute you invest. I'm glad you found your way here, and I'll be with you every step of the way.
