She's spent years at bedsides and wants to deepen her skills — especially in legacy work, vigil planning, and communicating the physical process of dying.
The palliative care nurse
He knows the clinical side cold and is looking for the human, non-medical layer — the grief support, the family communication, and the meaning-making that his training didn't cover.
The grief counselor
She supports people after loss and wants to extend her practice upstream — learning to serve families through anticipatory grief and the dying process itself.
The community caregiver
She's cared for loved ones through illness and death and wants to formalize what she's lived through — turning hard personal experience into a way of serving her community.
The social entrepreneur
He wants to build an ethical, sustainable doula practice from the ground up and needs the full picture — from scope of practice and pricing to referral networks and marketing with integrity.

A note from your teacher
Gary R Uremovich MS DMin PhD PA (Emeritus)
If you're reading this, I suspect you already know you're called to this work. Maybe you've sat at a bedside and felt it — that pull toward the person dying, the wish that you knew more, could do more, could be steadier. Or maybe you haven't been there yet, but you know in your bones that this is where you belong. Either way, I want you to know: that calling is real, and it deserves real training.
I built this school because I kept seeing the same gap. People would come to end-of-life work full of heart and completely underprepared — not for lack of compassion, but for lack of a map. They didn't know how to talk about the physical changes happening in the body without panicking a family. They didn't know how to hold a life review conversation without it drifting into small talk. They didn't know how to set a boundary without feeling like they were abandoning someone. And they burned out, sometimes quietly, sometimes badly, and the people they could have served lost them.
That's what this training is built to prevent. We start where it matters — with your own relationship to death, your own history, your own fears — because a doula who hasn't looked at their own mortality can't fully hold someone else's. From there, we move through the full landscape of this work: the communication skills, the physical knowledge, the ritual and ceremony, the legacy and meaning-making, and finally the real-world practice of building something sustainable. Nothing here is filler. Every lesson is something you will use at a bedside, or in a family meeting, or in a quiet moment alone after a death.
I also want to be honest with you about something. This work will change you. Not in the way people sometimes romanticize — not with constant transcendence and peaceful deathbed epiphanies. Sometimes it's hard and sad and strange, and you go home and you don't know what to do with what you've seen. The training prepares you for that, too. We talk about grief — yours — and how to process it without letting it hollow you out.
If you are ready to do this work well — not just with a warm heart, but with skill, clarity, and integrity — then you're in the right place. I'd be honored to walk this path with you.
