Victoria Wheeler
I know what it feels like to stand in a store, look at a form, or answer a phone call — and not understand a single word. That moment of silence, when you want to speak but the words will not come, can feel so lonely. If you are living that right now, I want you to know: you are not behind. You are exactly where many people start, and you can move forward from here.
I created Everyday American English because I believe that language is not just about words — it is about freedom. The freedom to go to the doctor and describe your pain. The freedom to talk to your child's teacher. The freedom to walk into a job interview and answer questions clearly and calmly. These are not small things. These are the moments that change your life in this new country.
This course does not teach you English the way a school test does. We do not start with grammar rules or long lists of vocabulary to memorize. We start with a greeting, a sentence, a real situation. We practice together, slowly, and then we practice again. Every lesson is built around a moment you will actually live — at the grocery store, at the clinic, on the bus, at the workplace. The words you learn here are the words you will use tomorrow.
I also know that you are busy. You may be working, raising children, managing a new home, and trying to understand a new culture — all at the same time. That is why every lesson is short, focused, and full of repetition. You do not need hours every day. You just need to start, and then keep going, a little at a time.
My promise to you is simple: I will never make you feel stupid for not knowing something. I will always explain clearly, repeat patiently, and celebrate every step forward. You came to a new country with courage. Now let's give you the words to match it. I am glad you are here — let's begin.
