Turn raw financial data into boardroom decisions
Transform messy spreadsheets and raw financial data into boardroom-ready dashboards, ratio analyses, and actionable business insights. No data-science degree required — just a sharp analytical mindset and real-world finance context.

"Every technique I teach connects directly to a business decision — because analysis that doesn't change what happens next is just expensive decoration."— VIKASH KUMAR JAIN

Financial Data Foundations: Clean, Structure, and Trust Your Numbers
Before any analysis can begin, learners must be able to assess, clean, and structure raw financial data. This foundational module ensures that all downstream work — ratios, trends, dashboards — is built on reliable, audit-ready data. It is deliberately placed first because every subsequent module depends on data integrity.
- 1.1Diagnosing Dirty Financial DataIncluded
- 1.2Structuring Financial Data for AnalysisIncluded
- 1.3Automating Data Ingestion and RefreshIncluded
Ratio Analysis: Calculating and Interpreting Financial Health
With clean, structured data in hand, learners now extract meaning from financial statements through the full suite of ratios. The module moves from short-term liquidity to operational efficiency to long-term solvency, mirroring how a financial analyst reads a set of accounts. Interpretation and benchmarking receive equal weight alongside calculation.
- 2.1Liquidity and Working Capital RatiosIncluded
- 2.2Profitability and Efficiency RatiosIncluded
- 2.3Leverage, Coverage, and Solvency RatiosIncluded
Time-Series Analysis: Trends, Seasonality, and Cost Patterns
Ratios provide a snapshot; time-series analysis reveals direction, momentum, and hidden patterns. Learners apply decomposition, indexing, and variance techniques to financial data across multiple periods. This module bridges static financial analysis and the forward-looking insights that leadership actually needs for planning.
- 3.1Revenue Trend Analysis and Growth DecompositionIncluded
- 3.2Identifying and Adjusting for SeasonalityIncluded
- 3.3Cost Pattern Analysis and Variance InvestigationIncluded
Financial Dashboard Design: From Data to Decision-Ready Visuals
Learners translate their analytical outputs into interactive, insight-forward dashboards. The module starts with design principles before touching any tool, ensuring visual choices serve communication rather than decoration. Learners then build in both Excel and Power BI, covering the two platforms most prevalent in finance teams. Placed after analysis modules so dashboards visualise real, already-understood metrics.
- 4.1Dashboard Design Principles for FinanceIncluded
- 4.2Building Interactive Excel DashboardsIncluded
- 4.3Power BI for Financial ReportingIncluded
Data Storytelling: Turning Numbers into Decisions
Analysis only creates value when it changes decisions. This module teaches learners to structure a financial narrative, annotate visuals for maximum clarity, and adapt their communication style for non-finance audiences — including executives who will act on the insights. Placed after analysis and dashboards so learners have real outputs to narrate.
- 5.1The Structure of a Financial NarrativeIncluded
- 5.2Annotating Charts and Visuals for ImpactIncluded
- 5.3Presenting to Non-Finance StakeholdersIncluded
Automation and Scalable Financial Reporting
The final module integrates everything learned into automated, repeatable reporting systems. Learners use Excel macros, VBA, Power BI Service, and Power Automate to eliminate manual steps — directly targeting the 80% reduction in update time outcome. The module closes with a capstone that synthesises all six modules into one boardroom-ready deliverable.
- 6.1Automating Reports with Excel Macros and VBAIncluded
- 6.2Scheduled Refresh and Distribution with Power BI and Power AutomateIncluded
- 6.3Capstone: Build and Present a Boardroom-Ready Financial Intelligence PackIncluded
Who it's for
Is this you?
Financial Analysts
You produce the numbers every month — this course teaches you to turn them into the strategic narrative that gets you a seat at the decisions table.
Management Accountants
You own the P&L and cost reports; learn to automate the grunt work and redesign your outputs so variance findings actually drive management action.
MBA Students
Bridge the gap between what your programme teaches and what finance teams actually do with data — arrive in your first role already dangerous with Excel and Power BI.
FP&A Professionals
Upgrade your forecasting and reporting stack with time-series techniques, interactive dashboards, and automated refresh that cut your close cycle significantly.
Finance Controllers
You're responsible for data integrity — learn to diagnose and structure financial datasets so they are audit-ready, analysis-friendly, and built to scale.
Big-Four & Advisory Analysts
Sharpen the ratio interpretation, data storytelling, and visualisation skills that separate a good analyst from the one clients ask for by name.

VIKASH KUMAR JAIN
If you work in finance, you already know how to read a set of accounts. What nobody taught you — in the CFA curriculum, in your MBA, or in your first three roles — is how to get from a folder of exported CSVs and a half-broken pivot table to a clean, automated, insight-led output that actually influences what happens next. That gap is expensive. It costs you hours every month-end, it costs you credibility when stakeholders ask questions your report wasn't designed to answer, and it costs your organisation the decisions that might have been made sooner with clearer information.
I built Finance Data Lab because that gap is entirely closable — and it closes faster than most finance professionals expect, once you learn the right techniques in the right order with the right financial context. This is not a data science course. You are not going to learn machine learning or write Python scripts. You are going to master the analytical and automation tools that a sharp, commercially grounded finance team actually uses: structured data design, the full suite of ratio analysis with interpretation frameworks, time-series methods for trend and seasonality work, interactive dashboards in Excel and Power BI, and the storytelling craft that makes your analysis land.
Every lesson in this curriculum is built around a real financial decision. When we work through liquidity ratios, we are asking what a lender or a CFO would do with that information. When we build a time-series model of revenue, we are asking where the growth is genuinely coming from and what the variance investigation tells us about cost discipline. When we design a dashboard, we are asking which KPIs and anomalies need to surface in the first ten seconds. That commercial grounding is what separates Finance Data Lab from a generic analytics course with a few finance slides bolted on.
The capstone will ask you to build and present a complete Financial Intelligence Pack — cleaned data, ratio framework, trend analysis, interactive dashboard, automated refresh, and a narrative that you could deliver to a board. That is the standard we are working toward, and it is a standard I believe you are entirely capable of reaching. The techniques are teachable. The analytical mindset you already have. Come and put them together properly.
