Know Who You Are Before You Walk In — Identity, Faith & Cultural Heritage
Before we open a single textbook, we lay the most important foundation of all: identity rooted in Christ. Students begin by anchoring who they are in their faith, then explore and celebrate the rich cultural heritage God placed them in — their history, their contributions, and their community. At a time when those histories are being erased, we do the opposite. This module sets the tone for everything that follows.
- 1.1You Were Built for This — Knowing Your Identity Before High SchoolIncluded
- 1.2How God Wired You to Learn — Understanding Your Learning Style & StrengthsIncluded
- 1.3Setting God-Honoring Goals for 9th Grade — Purpose-Driven, Culturally GroundedComing soon
Master Your Time Before It Masters You — Habits & Organization
Time management is the #1 skill gap for incoming high school athletes. This module teaches practical systems — planners, time-blocking, and priority frameworks — through the lens of biblical stewardship. Ephesians 5:15-16 ('make the most of every opportunity') is the guiding text. Students also draw inspiration from disciplines practiced by leaders across diverse cultural traditions who maximized limited time to make lasting contributions.

Read It, Write It, Own It — Academic Literacy Skills
High school demands a jump in reading complexity and writing expectation. This module sharpens both, using academic texts, Scripture, AND culturally significant literature as practice material. Students encounter the words of diverse thinkers, writers, and leaders whose contributions have shaped history — many of whose stories have been deliberately left out of standard curricula. Students leave with tools for active reading, structured writing, and vocabulary building they'll use every single year.
- 3.1Active Reading — How to Read Like a Scholar, Not a ScannerComing soon
- 3.2The Paragraph Is Your Power Unit — Writing That Communicates ClearlyComing soon
- 3.3Vocabulary That Opens Doors — Building Academic Word PowerComing soon
Numbers Don't Lie — Math Confidence & Problem-Solving
Math anxiety is real and common. This module rebuilds student confidence in core math skills needed for Algebra I and beyond, while reframing struggle as a spiritual and intellectual growth opportunity. Solomon’s wisdom reminds us that seeking understanding is always worth the ask. Students also explore the rich mathematical traditions of diverse cultures — from African geometry to Indigenous measurement systems — reclaiming math as a subject their ancestors mastered long before it was standardized.

- 4.2Problem-Solving Is a Spiritual Discipline — Strategy Over SpeedComing soon
- 4.3Test-Taking Strategies for Math — Calm, Smart, ConfidentComing soon
Lead Like Daniel — Christ-Centered Leadership, Character & Cultural Legacy
High school will ask your student to choose between following the crowd and standing in their convictions every single day. This module uses the lives of Daniel, Joseph, and Esther as blueprints for servant leadership under pressure. It then connects those biblical examples to the courage of leaders from students’ own cultural heritage — men and women throughout history who led with conviction, served their communities, and refused to let their identity or legacy be erased. Leadership is not just a skill. It’s a calling rooted in faith and fueled by heritage.

- 5.3Serve First — Leadership Through Contribution, Not StatusComing soon

Walk In Ready — Your High School Launch Plan
The final module is all about integration and action. Students synthesize everything they’ve learned into a personalized High School Launch Plan — a living document that covers their goals, routines, study systems, and spiritual commitments. They also craft a personal Cultural Legacy Statement, naming the heritage they carry, the contributions they intend to make, and the version of themselves they’re becoming. They leave the program not just prepared, but activated — walking into 9th grade anchored in Christ, proud of their story, and fully equipped to lead.

Coach Tasha
Hi, I'm so glad you and your student are here. I created First-String Freshman because I've seen too many gifted, God-designed young people walk into high school underprepared — not because they weren't smart enough, but because nobody sat with them over the summer and helped them build the right foundation. I've worked with student athletes from a range of cultural backgrounds, and one thing is always true: the students who thrive in 9th grade are the ones who knew who they were before they walked through the door.
This program was built to do exactly that. We start with Christ, because He is the only foundation that holds. Then we celebrate and honor the cultural heritage each student carries — because those histories matter, those contributions are real, and they deserve to be elevated rather than erased. Then we do the academic work: reading, writing, math, leadership, time management — all of it. Your student is about to discover they were always more than ready. Let's get them ready on paper too.
