Leigh Baumann

If you're reading this, you're probably somewhere between curious and frustrated. You've looked at funeral attendant job listings and noticed they tell you almost nothing. You've maybe asked around and gotten vague answers. You want to do this work — the stable income, the meaning behind it, the craft of it — but you don't want to walk into your first shift and realize too late that you missed something important. That feeling is completely justified. The funeral profession has a long tradition of throwing people in and seeing who swims. I don't think that's acceptable anymore.

I built this course because I've seen what happens when attendants don't have a real foundation. They use the wrong language and fracture a relationship. They miss a safety step and hurt themselves or someone else. They show up looking wrong on day one and never fully recover the first impression. None of that has to happen. These aren't mysteries — they're knowable things, and that's exactly what this school teaches.

What you'll get here is the real job, not the brochure version. We cover all 10 core competencies that make up the bulk of what you'll actually do, including the physically demanding parts that job postings leave out. We walk through the terminology as it's used on an actual floor, not as it's defined in a glossary. We cover the errors that end careers, what hazards look like in practice, and what professional conduct actually means in a grief environment — including the first ten seconds with a family, and how to read what they're not saying directly.

The credential at the end — your HireMark Level 1 — is portable. That matters. Your skills and your certification should belong to you, not disappear the moment you change employers. And there's a clear path forward from L1 through L4, with each level representing a raise you can name and ask for. That kind of structure doesn't exist in most corners of this industry. I want you to have it.

This course respects your time. There's no corporate softening, no textbook padding, no content that's there to make the course look longer. Every section covers what it needs to and moves on. If you're ready to start this career right — with your eyes open and your credential in hand — this is where you start.
