1

Your Alcohol Ink Studio: Setup, Tools & Safety

Establishes the essential foundation every student needs before touching ink. Covers workspace safety, ventilation, and surface/tool selection so learners can set up confidently on any budget. This module is deliberately first — no technique can be taught safely or effectively without it.

  • 1.1Workspace Setup & Safety EssentialsIncluded
  • 1.2Inks, Surfaces & Tools — What to Buy and WhyIncluded
  • 1.3Your First Drops: Getting Comfortable with InkIncluded
2

Control & Flow: Mastering Your Application Techniques

Builds deliberate control over ink movement — the core technical skill of the medium. Students progress from passive observation (Module 1) to active direction of ink using air, isopropyl alcohol, and physical applicators. Sequenced before color theory so that technique does not become tangled with color decision-making.

  • 2.1Air & Blowing TechniquesIncluded
  • 2.2Isopropyl Alcohol as a ToolIncluded
  • 2.3Mark-Making with Applicators & ToolsIncluded
3

Color Theory in Ink: Mixing, Layering & Depth

Applies color theory specifically to the unique properties of alcohol ink — a medium where colors cannot be physically mixed on a palette but interact chemically on the surface. Sequenced after technique so students can focus purely on color decisions without wrestling with tool control simultaneously.

  • 3.1Colour Relationships & Ink-Specific TheoryIncluded
  • 3.2Layering for Depth & LuminosityIncluded
  • 3.3Gradients, Transitions & Colour FlowIncluded
4

Signature Styles: Five Distinct Techniques

The creative centrepiece of the curriculum. Students execute five fully resolved, named techniques using all previously learned skills. Each lesson builds on technique (Module 2) and color (Module 3), allowing learners to focus on style-specific decisions. Ordered from foundational organic forms (cells, blooms) to more structured and complex compositions (geodes, negative space, representational work).

  • 4.1Cells & BloomsIncluded
  • 4.2Geode & Crystal DesignsIncluded
  • 4.3Negative Space & White Ink DesignsIncluded
  • 4.4Abstract Pouring & Marble EffectsIncluded
  • 4.5Floral & Botanical Representational WorkIncluded
5

Finishing & Presentation: From Raw Piece to Sellable Art

Teaches the critical final steps that transform a beautiful practice piece into a professional, durable, sellable artwork. Covers surface-specific sealing, resin finishing, and physical and digital presentation. Placed before the portfolio module so students produce finished, presentable pieces — not just raw experiments — for their portfolio.

  • 5.1Sealing & Varnishing on Every SurfaceIncluded
  • 5.2Resin Pours & Dimensional FinishingIncluded
  • 5.3Framing, Photographing & Presenting Your WorkIncluded
6

Personal Style & Portfolio Building

The capstone module. Students synthesize everything learned to develop a recognizable personal aesthetic, curate a cohesive portfolio, and take their first concrete steps toward sharing or selling. Placed last because a genuine personal style can only emerge after technical competence and broad stylistic exploration.

  • 6.1Finding Your Aesthetic VoiceIncluded
  • 6.2Curating & Editing Your PortfolioIncluded
  • 6.3Sharing, Selling & Growing Your PracticeIncluded

Robin Bott

If you've ever watched an alcohol ink video online and thought "I want to do that" — and then immediately wondered whether you'd be any good, whether you'd waste money on supplies, or whether it was really something a 'non-artist' could pull off — I want you to know: I see you, and I built this course for you.

So many creative people put off starting because they're waiting to feel ready, or they try a few drops on their own, make something muddy and overworked, and quietly put the inks away. That breaks my heart a little — because alcohol ink is one of the most forgiving, joyful, alive art forms I've ever worked with, and the gap between "I don't know what I'm doing" and "I just made something genuinely beautiful" is so much smaller than most people think.

What I've designed in Ink & Flow Studio is the course I wish I'd had when I started — one that doesn't just hand you techniques but actually helps you understand the ink. Why it moves the way it does. How to work with its nature instead of fighting it. How color theory behaves differently in alcohol ink than in any other medium, and how to use that to your advantage. Once that clicks, the cells, the blooms, the geodes, the gradients — they stop feeling like lucky accidents and start feeling like decisions. That shift is everything.

By the time you reach the finishing and portfolio modules, you won't just have a folder of practice sheets — you'll have a small collection of sealed, framed, or photographed pieces that you are genuinely proud of. Pieces you'd hang on your own wall. Maybe pieces you'd consider selling. And more importantly, you'll have a practice — a ritual, a way of spending an afternoon — that is completely, unmistakably yours.

Come make something beautiful. I'll be with you every step of the way.
