I've spent years raising poultry — starting with a small backyard flock of six hens and growing into a diversified operation with laying flocks, meat birds, and heritage breeds. Along the way I made every mistake in the book: chicks lost to a cold brooder, a respiratory outbreak that swept through my flock because I skipped biosecurity, eggs priced so low I was losing money on every dozen.
