David Vaughn

If you're reading this, there's a good chance you've felt it — that quiet frustration of knowing you're capable of understanding far more than your formal education ever asked of you. Maybe you graduated and realized your degree left enormous blind spots. Maybe you went straight into the workforce and have been building expertise in one area while the rest of your intellectual curiosity gathered dust. Maybe you just always wanted the kind of education that takes the whole world seriously, not just one corner of it.

I built The Total Scholar for you.

I believe that a genuinely educated person can read a balance sheet and a political philosophy text with equal confidence. They can follow an argument about monetary policy, understand what a p-value means in a research study, write a clear and persuasive memo, and engage seriously with the theological questions that have shaped civilization. That's not an impossible standard — it's what a real education produces. And for too long, that kind of education has been locked behind tuition bills, geographic barriers, and institutional gatekeepers.

The curriculum I've put together here is my answer to that problem. Every subject — from double-entry bookkeeping and capital budgeting, to supply and demand and macroeconomic policy, to genetics and chemistry and Newtonian physics, to the U.S. Constitution and comparative government, to grammar and research writing, to the Abrahamic faiths and Eastern religious traditions — is taught with the same philosophy: anchor every concept in reality, respect your intelligence, and never mistake simplicity for clarity. I don't water things down. I make them accessible, which is a different thing entirely.

I also want to be honest about what this school is. It's not a shortcut. It's not a cheat sheet. It's a serious, structured, self-directed education for people who are serious about learning. What you put in is what you'll get out — but what you can get out is genuinely remarkable. Students who work through these subjects don't just accumulate information; they start to think differently. They connect ideas across disciplines. They ask better questions. They make better decisions.

The school is also designed to grow. The Expanding Frontiers section isn't a placeholder — it's a commitment. Psychology, philosophy, history, environmental science, sociology — they're coming, because an educated mind doesn't stop being curious, and neither does this curriculum.

If you're ready to take your education seriously — on your terms, at your pace, without apology — I'd be honored to be your guide. Welcome to The Total Scholar.
