Love Beyond Prejudice

Compassion without knowledge is fragile, and knowledge without compassion is dangerous — this school is where the two finally meet.David Clilverd

If you've picked up this page, chances are you've felt it — that moment in a conversation where prejudice surfaces and you didn't quite have the words. Or perhaps you work with young people, or belong to a faith community, or sit on a committee that's about to make a decision affecting LGBTQ+ lives, and you want to show up better than you have before. I understand that place. It's exactly where this school begins.

The truth is, most of us were never taught to think carefully about sexual orientation — where the science actually lands, what history really shows, or why intelligent, decent people still hold harmful views. We were handed conclusions, not tools. And without tools, even the most well-meaning among us end up either silent when we should speak, or speaking in ways that push people further away rather than closer to understanding.

This school exists to give you those tools. Not talking points — tools. You'll learn why stigma persists even when the evidence is overwhelming. You'll sit with Alan Turing's story not as a historical footnote but as a mirror for the cost of institutional prejudice. You'll understand conversion therapy not just as a policy problem but as a human rights failure with a paper trail of harm. And you'll learn — carefully, practically — how to walk into a difficult conversation with a family member or a person of faith and come out of it having genuinely connected, not just clashed.

I've designed this curriculum on one conviction: that compassion without knowledge is fragile, and knowledge without compassion is dangerous. The only combination that actually moves people — and moves policy — is both, working together. That's what we build here.

I also believe that people of faith deserve to be in this conversation, not excluded from it. Some of the most powerful voices for LGBTQ+ dignity have come from inside religious traditions — and some of the most entrenched harm has been done in religion's name. We hold both truths, and we help you navigate that tension with integrity.

You don't need to be an activist, a lawyer, or an academic to belong here. You need to care — about people, about truth, and about the kind of world you want to live in. If that's you, I'd be genuinely honoured to learn alongside you.
