What you'll learn

What you'll be able to do

  • Confidently perform whole-number, fraction, decimal, and percent operations without a calculator
  • Solve real-world word problems involving ratios, rates, and proportions — a core skill on both the GED and ASVAB
  • Understand and apply pre-algebra concepts: variables, expressions, equations, and inequalities
  • Interpret graphs, tables, and basic statistics well enough to pass the GED Mathematical Reasoning section
  • Work through ASVAB Arithmetic Reasoning and Mathematics Knowledge question types accurately and under timed conditions
  • Build a personalized study plan that tracks weak spots and closes skill gaps from K–8 foundations through test-day readiness

The curriculum

What's inside your school

6 modules · 26 lessons

1

Number Sense & Whole Number Operations

Establishes the bedrock of all math that follows. Students build a deep understanding of how numbers are structured, compared, and manipulated — ensuring no foundational gap is carried into fractions, algebra, or test day. This module mirrors K–5 standards and directly supports GED and ASVAB whole-number question types.

  • 1.1Place Value, Rounding & Number LinesIncluded
  • 1.2Addition & Subtraction MasteryIncluded
  • 1.3Multiplication & Division MasteryIncluded
  • 1.4Factors, Multiples & Order of OperationsIncluded
2

Fractions, Decimals & Percents

One of the heaviest-tested domains on both the GED and ASVAB. Students move from conceptual models of fractions all the way to percent applications encountered in real life and on exam questions. Module 1 prerequisites (place value, GCF/LCM, operations) are applied throughout.

  • 2.1Fraction Foundations & Equivalent FractionsIncluded
  • 2.2Adding & Subtracting FractionsIncluded
  • 2.3Multiplying & Dividing FractionsIncluded
  • 2.4Decimals: Operations & Place ValueIncluded
  • 2.5Percents: Concepts, Conversions & ApplicationsIncluded
3

Ratios, Rates & Proportional Reasoning

Proportional reasoning is among the most heavily weighted skills on both exams. This module builds from the concrete (comparing quantities) to the abstract (setting up and solving proportions) and connects directly to percent, unit conversion, and linear relationships in Module 4. Students should complete Modules 1 and 2 first.

  • 3.1Ratios & Unit RatesIncluded
  • 3.2Proportions & Cross-MultiplicationIncluded
  • 3.3Percents as Proportions & Real-World ApplicationsIncluded
4

Pre-Algebra: Variables, Expressions & Equations

Transitions students from arithmetic to symbolic reasoning. This module covers every algebra concept tested on GED Mathematical Reasoning and ASVAB Mathematics Knowledge: writing and simplifying expressions, solving equations and inequalities, and connecting algebra to graphs and functions. Completing Modules 1–3 first ensures students have the numerical fluency to handle algebraic manipulation.

  • 4.1Variables, Expressions & the Language of AlgebraIncluded
  • 4.2Solving One- and Two-Step EquationsIncluded
  • 4.3Inequalities & the Number LineIncluded
  • 4.4Patterns, Functions & Introduction to GraphingIncluded
5

Geometry & Measurement

Covers every geometry and measurement topic tested on the GED Mathematical Reasoning and ASVAB Mathematics Knowledge sections: angles, polygons, circles, perimeter, area, surface area, volume, unit conversion, and the Pythagorean theorem. Students apply algebra (Module 4) to set up and solve geometric equations, and use measurement skills to reinforce real-world numeracy. A GED formula reference sheet is introduced and practiced throughout.

  • 5.1Angles, Lines & Basic ShapesIncluded
  • 5.2Perimeter, Area & CircumferenceIncluded
  • 5.3Surface Area & VolumeIncluded
  • 5.4Unit Conversions & MeasurementIncluded
  • 5.5The Pythagorean Theorem & Coordinate GeometryIncluded
6

Data, Statistics & GED/ASVAB Test Readiness

Completes the curriculum by developing data-interpretation skills (a dedicated GED domain) and then consolidates all prior learning into exam-specific preparation. Students learn to read and critique real data displays, compute statistical measures, and apply probability — then practice full-length simulated GED and ASVAB sections with timed, test-authentic conditions. A personalized study-plan tool closes identified gaps before test day.

  • 6.1Reading & Interpreting Graphs and TablesIncluded
  • 6.2Mean, Median, Mode, Range & Basic ProbabilityIncluded
  • 6.3GED Mathematical Reasoning: Full Test PrepIncluded
  • 6.4ASVAB Arithmetic Reasoning & Mathematics Knowledge: Full Test PrepIncluded
  • 6.5Personalized Study Plan & Gap-Closure ReviewIncluded

Lakeisha Jones

I know what it feels like to look at a math problem and go completely blank — not because you're bad at math, but because somewhere along the way, a piece of the foundation went missing. Maybe a concept was rushed past, maybe school got hard for other reasons, maybe it's just been a long time. Whatever happened, you've been carrying around this quiet frustration ever since. I built Math From Scratch for you.

This school exists because most math instruction assumes you're already keeping up. It throws formulas at you before the idea behind them makes sense. It uses words like "simplify," "evaluate," and "solve for x" without ever explaining what those words actually mean. That's not teaching — that's just talking. Every lesson in this curriculum is designed the other way around: real situation first, plain explanation second, rule or formula last. We don't move on until the why is clear.

Here's what you'll actually do in this school: you'll rebuild your number sense from the ground up, working through whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents with the kind of step-by-step care they deserve. You'll get comfortable with ratios, rates, and proportions — skills that matter in everyday life and that both the GED and ASVAB test heavily. You'll learn pre-algebra in plain English. You'll work through geometry and measurement without panic. And you'll finish with dedicated, focused prep for the exact test you're taking, plus a personalized plan to close whatever gaps remain.

I won't pretend this is effortless. Real learning takes practice, and some of these ideas will need a second or third pass before they click. But nothing in this curriculum is beyond you — I promise you that. The only thing you need to bring is the willingness to sit down and work through it. I'll handle the rest.

If you've been waiting for the right moment to finally get this handled — to stop dreading math, to pass that test, to help your kid, to prove something to yourself — this is it. Pull up a chair. Let's get to work.
