I want you to know: that feeling is almost universal among nursing students, and it has nothing to do with how smart you are. It has everything to do with the fact that nobody taught you how to learn nursing before throwing you into the deep end of a 900-page fundamentals textbook.

I've spent years working with nursing students across every level of pre-licensure education — students who walked in convinced they couldn't do it, and walked out passing their boards and confident in their first clinical year. What I've seen, over and over, is that the struggle isn't intelligence. It's framework. When you understand the pattern of how disease works, the logic of how drug classes behave, and the reasoning structure behind NCLEX-style questions, nursing school stops being a fire hose and starts being a map.
