Read the Old Testament in the language God gave it

If you are reading this, you have almost certainly spent years reading the Bible in translation — perhaps very good translations, perhaps several of them side by side. And at some point, a verse stopped you. The footnote said "Hebrew uncertain." Two respected translations disagreed by a full clause. A commentary made a claim about the original that you simply had to take on faith. You felt, perhaps for the first time, the distance between you and the text.

That distance has a name: it is the Hebrew language. And it is learnable. I say that not to minimize the work involved — learning Biblical Hebrew is real work, the kind that requires memorization, patience, and a willingness to sit with paradigms that feel abstract until, suddenly, they don't — but to be absolutely clear with you that the barrier is not intelligence or background. It is only time, method, and discipline.

This course gives you the method. It is structured the way grammar has always been taught in serious theological education, because that structure exists for a reason. We begin with the writing system — not because the alphabet is exciting in itself, but because you cannot parse a form you cannot read. We drill vowel points and diacritical marks until they are automatic, because the niqqud is not decoration; it is grammatical data. We build vocabulary systematically, targeting the words that appear most frequently across the Old Testament, so that every hour of memorization yields the highest possible return when you open your Hebrew Bible. We work through noun grammar — gender, number, the definite article, the construct chain — with examples drawn from the biblical text at every step. We parse verbs. We conjugate the Qal perfect and imperfect across every person-gender-number combination, for strong verbs and for the major weak verb classes. And then, when the grammar is in place, we translate — real prose, real Genesis passages, with the waw-consecutive in its natural habitat.

I will not pretend this is effortless. I will tell you honestly that the students who succeed in this course are the ones who show up every day, who drill their paradigms before they feel ready, and who trust that confusion is not failure — it is the normal texture of acquiring a language.
