You are not what you had to become

I want to begin where you might actually be right now.

You may have lived a long time with the sense that something fundamental is missing — not in your circumstances, necessarily, but in your sense of self. That the life you have built is real, and yet you are somehow outside of it, watching through glass. That you have been performing belonging in rooms where you were never quite known. If that is where you are, I want you to know: that experience has a name, and it has an explanation, and it is not a permanent verdict on who you are.

I wrote From Orphan to Chosen because I believe orphanhood is one of the most pervasive and least-named conditions of our time — and because I believe the journey from it is possible. Not through positive thinking, and not through simply trying harder to connect. But through honest, unhurried reckoning with where the disconnection was actually formed — in your own story, yes, but also in the systems and structures and substitute homes that shaped the air you breathed. Political power that governs through neglect. Religious institutions that offered control in the name of belonging. Cultural scripts that handed you a borrowed name and called it identity. These are not small forces, and naming them honestly is the beginning of being free of them.

The architecture of this course follows the shape of the journey itself. We begin in the hard places — in the scaffolding of the orphan self, in the systems that replicate disconnection at scale, in the rupture points of your own story that you may never have looked at directly. I do not rush you past those places. Precision matters here. You cannot dismantle a structure you have never fully seen.

And then we turn. Toward the Father's house — toward origin and attachment restored. Toward the return of your name, from survival back to identity. Toward belovedness, which I hold to be not a sentiment but a foundation: the only ground from which vocation and moral life can be built without eventually collapsing under the weight of what they are trying to prove. We look at the broken cisterns our culture offers as substitutes for that foundation — the borrowed names, the ideological homes, the relational arrangements that mistake proximity for intimacy — and we begin, carefully and concretely, to build something different.

I will not promise you that this course is easy. I will promise you that it is honest, and that it leads somewhere real. You were not made for the margins of your own life. You were made to be known, named, and sent — and this course is an invitation to begin living as though that is true.
