1

Building the Foundation: What Is Present Simple?

Establishes the conceptual bedrock before any form-focused work begins. Students discover the four core communicative jobs of the present simple tense and learn to recognise the time-signal words that cue its use — ensuring they always know why they are choosing this tense, not just how to form it.

  • 1.1The Four Jobs of Present SimpleIncluded
  • 1.2Time Signals: Words That Call for Present SimpleIncluded
2

Forming Present Simple: Positive, Negative & Questions

Moves from conceptual understanding to precise structural control. Students master how to build all three sentence types — positive, negative, and question — including the auxiliary verb system (do/does) and correct word order. Gaps here would undermine every module that follows, so accuracy and automaticity are the twin goals.

  • 2.1Positive Sentences: The Base Rule and Its ExceptionsIncluded
  • 2.2Negative Sentences: Don't vs. Doesn'tIncluded
  • 2.3Questions: Do, Does, and Natural Word OrderIncluded
3

Mastering the Third-Person Singular '-s'

Zooms in on the single most frequently dropped rule in learner English. Students move from knowing the rule in isolation to applying it automatically under the pressure of real speech and real writing — the two conditions where it most often disappears.

  • 3.1The '-s' Rule, '-es' Rule, and Irregular 'have/do/go'Included
  • 3.2Third-Person '-s' in Real Speech and WritingIncluded
4

Frequency Adverbs: Saying How Often

Equips students with the vocabulary and grammatical positioning rules for frequency adverbs so they can express nuance, express personality, and describe habits with natural fluency. This module sits after form-mastery modules so students can combine adverbs with correctly formed sentences straight away.

  • 4.1The Frequency Scale and Sentence Position RuleIncluded
  • 4.2Using Frequency Adverbs Fluently in ConversationIncluded
5

Present Simple vs. Present Continuous: Never Mix Them Up Again

Addresses the most persistent source of confusion for present simple learners head-on. Students build a principled contrast between the two tenses — permanent/habitual versus temporary/in-progress — and tackle the critical sub-topic of stative verbs, which cannot be continuous regardless of context. The final lesson replicates real-time pressure so students can choose confidently without overthinking.

  • 5.1The Core Contrast: Permanent vs. TemporaryIncluded
  • 5.2Stative Verbs: Why Some Verbs Refuse to Be ContinuousIncluded
  • 5.3Choosing the Right Tense Under PressureIncluded
6

Error-Proofing: Spot, Fix, and Own Your Writing

Transforms all previous learning into an active, transferable self-monitoring skill. Students build a personalised error log that reflects their own specific mistake patterns, develop and use a self-editing checklist tailored to present simple, and walk away with concrete tools they can apply independently long after the course ends.

  • 6.1Building Your Personal Error LogIncluded
  • 6.2The Self-Editing Checklist in ActionIncluded

Hi there — I'm really glad you found this course.

If you've ever paused mid-sentence because you weren't sure whether to say he work or he works — or typed a sentence and then deleted it three times because something felt off but you couldn't say what — I want you to know that's completely normal. Present simple is one of the first things English learners are taught, which means it's also one of the things most people were taught too fast, without enough time to actually make it stick. The gaps don't mean you're bad at English. They mean you never got the right explanation at the right moment.

That's exactly what this course is here to fix. I built Present Simple Pro lesson by lesson, starting from the foundation — the four jobs present simple actually does — and working all the way through to the mistakes that even intermediate learners make without realising. Every explanation is short, every example is something from real life, and there's a little humour along the way, because grammar doesn't have to feel like a punishment.

I'm particularly proud of the final lesson. Most grammar courses end when the rules end. This one ends with you building your own personal error log and a self-editing checklist that you can carry into every piece of English writing you ever do from here on. Because the real goal isn't just to finish a course — it's to never need to second-guess yourself on present simple again.

You don't need to be naturally gifted at languages. You don't need to have studied grammar before. You just need to be willing to take it one clear step at a time. I'll be with you for every single one of those steps.

Come on in — let's make present simple feel like second nature.
