1

Preparing Your Manuscript

Before a single query letter is written or an upload button clicked, the manuscript itself must be bulletproof. This module takes students from raw draft to a polished, industry-standard document — covering formatting conventions, every layer of self-editing, and the external feedback loop that catches what solo revision misses. Completing this module is the prerequisite for every path that follows.

  • 1.1Industry-Standard Manuscript FormattingIncluded
  • 1.2Developmental Self-Editing: Story-Level RevisionIncluded
  • 1.3Line Editing and Prose PolishIncluded
  • 1.4Beta Readers and Critique PartnersIncluded
2

Traditional Publishing

For students pursuing a traditional deal, this module is the complete roadmap — from understanding how the agent-publisher ecosystem works, to writing a query letter that gets requests, to crafting a synopsis that doesn't kill momentum, to running a professional submission campaign. Each lesson builds directly on the last and on the polished manuscript from Module 1.

  • 2.1Literary Agents: How the Industry WorksIncluded
  • 2.2Query LettersIncluded
  • 2.3The SynopsisIncluded
  • 2.4The Submission ProcessIncluded
3

Self-Publishing

For students pursuing independent publishing — or those keeping both options open — this module delivers a complete professional production workflow. Students format their manuscript for ebook and print, make informed decisions about cover design, get their book onto every major retail platform, and set a pricing strategy grounded in genre market norms and business logic. The module treats self-publishing as a creative and entrepreneurial craft, not a fallback.

  • 3.1Formatting Your Ebook and Print InteriorIncluded
  • 3.2Cover DesignIncluded
  • 3.3Distribution: Getting Your Book onto Retail PlatformsIncluded
  • 3.4Pricing StrategyIncluded
4

Building Your Author Platform

Platform is the infrastructure that converts readers into a community — and a community into sustainable book sales. This module ensures every student builds the three core platform assets (website, newsletter, reader magnet) in the right sequence, with the right strategic logic, regardless of whether they are pursuing traditional or self-publishing. These assets need to exist before the book launch, making this module a deliberate prerequisite to the final one.

  • 4.1Your Author WebsiteIncluded
  • 4.2Your Author NewsletterIncluded
  • 4.3Your Reader MagnetIncluded
5

Book Launch

A book launch is not a single day — it is a planned campaign that begins weeks before publication and continues through the post-launch window. This module brings together everything from all previous modules: the polished manuscript, the platform, the reader magnet, and the distribution setup. Students design a launch strategy calibrated to their publishing path and resources, mobilize ARC readers to generate early reviews, and execute a focused launch week with pre-planned promotional beats.

  • 5.1Planning Your Launch StrategyIncluded
  • 5.2ARC Readers and Early ReviewsIncluded
  • 5.3Executing Launch WeekIncluded

Who it's for

Is this you?

The Drawer-Novel Writer

You finished a manuscript months (or years) ago and it's been sitting in a folder — this school gives you the exact next steps to actually do something with it.

The Query-Letter Skeptic

You've heard the agent system is a nightmare and you're not sure traditional publishing is worth it — the Traditional Publishing module lets you judge for yourself with real, current information.

The Indie-Curious Writer

You like the idea of self-publishing but don't know how to make a book look professional — the self-publishing modules cover formatting, cover design, distribution, and pricing from scratch.

The Querying-But-Struggling Novelist

You've sent queries and heard nothing but silence — the query letter and synopsis lessons break down exactly what's working, what isn't, and how to fix it.

The Platform-Less Author

You have a book nearly ready but no website, no newsletter, and no idea where to start — the Author Platform module builds all three from zero in the right order.

The Almost-Done Drafter

Your first draft is nearly finished and you want to understand the full publishing landscape before you type the final word — so you can make every revision count.

If you're reading this, I'm guessing you're somewhere I know well: you have a manuscript — maybe finished, maybe almost there — and every time you try to figure out what to do next, you end up with forty browser tabs open, completely contradictory advice, and a creeping sense that publishing is a secret club nobody told you about.

It's not a secret club. It's just not explained well. And that's exactly what this school is for.

I built Publish Your Novel because the information a novelist needs is genuinely scattered — part of it lives in traditional publishing circles, part in indie author communities, and the two worlds don't talk to each other much. You end up piecing things together from blog posts written in 2016, Reddit threads where everyone disagrees, and well-meaning advice from people who published under completely different circumstances than yours. That's exhausting, and it's not good enough for a writer who has done the real work of finishing a novel.

Here's what I want you to know: both publishing paths — traditional and indie — are legitimate, professional, and absolutely achievable. Neither one is a consolation prize. What they each require is clarity: a well-prepared manuscript, the right materials presented the right way, and a plan you can actually execute. That's what every module in this school gives you. We start with your manuscript, because nothing else matters if the book isn't ready. Then we walk both roads in full — query letters, synopses, and the submission process on the traditional side; formatting, cover design, distribution, and pricing on the indie side. And then we build the platform and the launch, because getting published and getting read are two different challenges.

I won't pretend publishing is easy, or that there's a magic formula. But I will tell you this: writers who go in with clear, accurate information and a methodical plan have a real advantage over writers who are just hoping for the best. You've already written the book. Let's get it to readers.

Come in. There's a seat at the table — and it has your name on it.
