Who it's for

Is this you?

The Reluctant Reader

He doesn't hate books — he hates feeling lost in them, and this course gives him the exact strategies to finally feel in control of any text.

The Test Prepper

She's a solid student but freezes on standardized reading sections, and the test-readiness and timed-practice lessons are built specifically for her.

The Catch-Up Student

She's reading below grade level and needs a structured, encouraging program that builds her skills from the ground up without making her feel behind.

The Detail Misser

He reads every word but struggles to pull out the main idea or supporting details — the detective-style framework gives him a system that actually works.

The Strong Reader Going Deeper

She reads for fun but wants to level up her analytical skills — author's craft, bias, point of view, and theme — before 8th grade raises the bar.

The Homework Struggler

She can handle fiction fine but freezes on nonfiction assignments and open-ended response questions — exactly the two areas this course tackles head-on.

Krista Mallo

Hey — if you're reading this, there's a good chance you (or your student) know that feeling. You're staring at a passage. You read it once. You read it again. And you still aren't totally sure what it's actually about — let alone what the author's purpose is or what evidence you'd use to answer a question about it.

That feeling is not a reading problem. It's a tools problem. And that's exactly what Read Sharp 7 is here to fix.

I built this course because 7th grade is such a critical turning point. The texts get longer and more complex. Teachers expect more analysis. Tests get harder. And a lot of students hit a wall — not because they're not smart, but because nobody ever explicitly taught them how to read strategically. How to preview a text before diving in. How to use a word's roots and surrounding context to figure out what it means. How to spot the difference between what an author is saying and what an author thinks. These aren't instincts — they're learnable skills. And once you have them, everything changes.

In Read Sharp 7, we move through the full toolkit of a strong 7th-grade reader: from annotating and summarizing, to cracking vocabulary, to analyzing fiction and nonfiction with real precision, to writing responses that actually cite and use evidence well. Every lesson is focused. Every concept builds on the last. And nothing is padded — if it's in this course, it's there because it matters for reading in the real world and on your next exam.

I also want to be real with you: this isn't a passive course. You won't just watch and absorb. You'll practice. You'll annotate. You'll respond. You'll push through a longer passage and feel your stamina grow. That's how skills actually stick — and that's the experience I've designed every lesson around.

Whether your goal is to get your grade up, stop dreading standardized tests, or just finally get what everyone else seems to understand about reading — you're in the right place. Let's get sharp.
