Train your own service dog — without the $30,000 agency wait
A step-by-step owner-trainer program that takes you from basic obedience to public access ready — covering psychiatric, mobility, and medical alert tasks, ADA rights, and everything in between. No experience required. No shortcuts taken.

"I built this program because you deserve a clear roadmap — not fragments of advice — and your dog deserves a trainer who believes in doing this right."
— Stephen B. Phillips

What you'll learn
What you'll be able to do
- Train a solid foundation of obedience commands (sit, down, stay, heel, recall) that hold up in high-distraction public environments
- Teach your dog at least three disability-mitigating tasks tailored to your specific condition — such as deep pressure therapy, alerting, or brace support
- Pass a public access test by confidently entering stores, restaurants, and transit with a dog that remains calm and focused
- Understand U.S. ADA rights and documentation so you can advocate for yourself in housing, travel, and public spaces without hesitation
- Read your dog's stress signals and apply desensitization protocols to prevent task failure or handler injury in real-world situations
- Build and maintain a training log and task certification portfolio to demonstrate your dog's training history to housing providers, airlines, or employers

If you're reading this, you've probably already spent time on waitlists, navigated the sticker shock of agency programs, or quietly wondered whether your own dog — the one who already seems to know when you're struggling — could be trained to do this for real.
I want you to know: that instinct you have about your dog is worth taking seriously. And the desire to train them yourself, with your own hands, in your own home, around your own real life — that's not a shortcut. That's actually how some of the best service dogs in the world get made.
I created Service Dog Academy because I kept meeting people who were motivated, capable, and deeply committed to this process — but who had no clear roadmap. They'd find fragments of advice online, conflicting opinions about what "counts" as a task, and no one to tell them honestly whether their dog was actually a good candidate. They were trying to do right by themselves and their dog, and they deserved a program that did right by them.
Everything in this curriculum is sequenced the way real service dog training actually works: candidacy assessment first, obedience foundation before task work, stress and distraction management woven throughout, and public access skills built incrementally — not thrown at a dog all at once. We don't skip the hard parts. Reading your dog's stress signals, applying desensitization protocols, knowing when to end a session and call it a win — those skills are in here because they're the difference between a dog who holds up in a real emergency and one who shuts down when you need them most.
I also want to be straight with you about the legal side, because it matters. You have the right to train your own service dog under the ADA. You have housing protections. You have air travel rights. And you deserve to walk into any of those situations knowing exactly what you're entitled to and how to document it — not just hoping no one challenges you.
This isn't a program that promises miracles. It's a program that gives you the knowledge, the sequence, and the support to do something genuinely hard, one training session at a time. If you're willing to show up for your dog, this curriculum will show up for you. I'd be honored to walk this road with you.
