The Natural Formulator's Foundation
Establishes the essential groundwork before any formulating begins. Students learn how skin functions, how to read ingredient lists on any product, and how to set up a safe, organised home workspace. This module ensures learners start with the right mental models and physical environment — prerequisites for everything that follows.
- 1.1How Skincare Actually WorksIncluded
- 1.2Decoding INCI Labels Like a ProIncluded
- 1.3Setting Up Your Home ApothecaryIncluded
Know Your Ingredients
A deep-dive ingredient literacy module that covers every major raw material category students will use throughout the course. Sequenced before formulation science so learners understand what they are working with before learning how to combine it. Directly delivers the 'identify, source, and evaluate ingredients by quality and skin type' outcome.
- 2.1Carrier Oils & Butters — The Heart of Every FormulaIncluded
- 2.2Waters, Hydrosols & Botanical ExtractsIncluded
- 2.3Actives, Vitamins & Natural PowerhousesIncluded
- 2.4Sourcing, Quality & SustainabilityIncluded
Safe Formulation Science
Builds the technical and scientific competencies that separate safe, stable products from risky, unstable ones. Covers emulsion theory, pH chemistry, and natural preservation — three pillars that underpin every formula in the course. Sequenced after ingredient knowledge so students understand what materials they are manipulating, and before product-building so they can apply these principles immediately.
- 3.1Emulsion Fundamentals — Making Oil & Water Work TogetherIncluded
- 3.2pH Mastery — Why It Makes or Breaks Your FormulaIncluded
- 3.3Natural Preservation — Making Products Safe to UseIncluded
Building Your Core Routine
The practical formulation heart of the course, where students make their first complete products — a full four-step routine of cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturiser. Every lesson applies the science and ingredient knowledge from the preceding modules and produces a finished, usable product. Sequenced after the science foundation so learners formulate with understanding, not just by following recipes. Directly delivers the 'formulate a core routine' outcome.
- 4.1Cleansers — Gentle Cleansing Without StrippingIncluded
- 4.2Toners & Essences — Balancing and Priming the SkinIncluded
- 4.3Serums — Targeted Actives in a Lightweight BaseIncluded
- 4.4Moisturisers & Face Balms — Locking It All InIncluded
Customising for Skin Concerns
Elevates students from following recipes to truly personalised formulation. Each lesson tackles a specific skin concern with targeted ingredient selection, formula modification strategies, and completed product variations. Sequenced after the core routine module so students already have base formulas to adapt rather than starting from scratch. Directly delivers the 'customise for specific skin concerns' outcome.
- 5.1Formulating for Acne-Prone & Oily SkinIncluded
- 5.2Formulating for Dryness & Compromised BarrierIncluded
- 5.3Formulating for Hyperpigmentation & Uneven ToneIncluded
- 5.4Formulating for Sensitive & Reactive SkinIncluded
Brand, Package & Share Your Creations
Transforms students from home formulators into confident creators who can present, label, and — where desired — sell their products. Covers body and hair extensions to round out a product line, legal labelling requirements, cosmetic safety considerations for selling, and the branding and packaging skills needed for gifting or small-batch commerce. Directly delivers the 'design and package branded products' outcome. A new prerequisite lesson on stability and challenge testing is added here to bridge formulation science and commercial readiness.
- 6.1Stability, Shelf Life & Challenge TestingIncluded
- 6.2Beyond the Face — Balms, Masks & Body Extras for Your LineIncluded
- 6.3Labelling, Safety & Selling LegallyIncluded
- 6.4Branding, Packaging & Presenting Your ApothecaryIncluded

Anastasia Hampton
If you've ever stood in a shop aisle, flipped over a moisturiser, and felt a quiet frustration at the wall of unpronounceable ingredients — I want you to know that feeling is exactly where I started too.
I became obsessed with natural skincare not because I wanted a hobby, but because I needed answers. My skin was reactive, the products I was using weren't helping, and everything I tried to learn online either went straight over my head or felt impossibly vague. What I wanted was someone to sit down with me, explain how skin actually works, show me which ingredients genuinely do what they claim, and walk me through making something real. Something I could trust because I'd made every decision in it myself.
That's what The Skin Apothecary is. It's the course I wish had existed — structured enough to give you a real foundation, but warm and human enough that you never feel like you're studying for an exam. We start with the fundamentals (because knowing how skincare works changes everything), move into ingredients — the carrier oils, botanical waters, hydrosols, butters, and actives that form the heart of every formula — and then get hands-on building a full core routine from scratch. Cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser. Yours, from ingredients you chose, for skin like yours.
I know the hesitation some people feel around the science side of formulation — pH, emulsions, preservation. I want to be honest with you: these things matter, and I won't pretend they don't. But they are also completely learnable, and once they click, they don't feel like chemistry — they feel like common sense. That "aha" moment is one of my favourite things to witness.
And if your goal goes beyond your own bathroom shelf — if you've dreamed of gifting beautifully packaged products to people you love, or one day selling a small curated line — the final module takes you all the way there, from stability testing to branding to understanding what selling legally actually involves. You get the whole picture.
Come curious. Leave capable. Your apothecary is waiting.
