What did the cross accomplish? Can I know I am truly saved? — then I want you to know that you are not alone, and you are not wrong to press deeper.
So many earnest Christians have been handed a thin theology of salvation: a few verses, a prayer, a tradition inherited without examination. And for a while, that may feel sufficient. But sooner or later — in a hard conversation, a season of doubt, an encounter with a different theological tradition, or simply a long night with an honest question — thin theology shows its limits. I believe you deserve better than that. I believe the doctrine of salvation is rich enough, and the God who saves is glorious enough, to reward every effort you make to understand it more fully.
This course is my attempt to give you the tools I wish I had been handed earlier: a careful walk through the whole biblical story of redemption, from the garden to the new creation; a rigorous, fair-minded treatment of every major atonement theory; an honest reckoning with the Calvinist-Arminian debate that doesn't caricature either side; and a guided tour through two millennia of theological reflection on what God has done in Christ. We will spend real time with Augustine, Luther, Calvin, Wesley, Edwards, and Barth — not as names to drop, but as conversation partners who have wrestled with the same texts you are reading.
My commitment to you is this: I will treat you as a capable thinker. I will define terms carefully and use theological vocabulary precisely, but I will never use precision as a substitute for clarity. I will tell you where I have convictions and where I think the evidence is genuinely contested.
