A note from your teacher
Tracy Burke
Hey — I'm really glad you found this page.
If you've ever picked up a German phrasebook, repeated a few words, and then frozen the moment a real person replied to you — I know exactly how that feels. Or maybe you've tried an app, ticked the daily streak box for a few months, and then realised you still couldn't hold a conversation. That gap between "learning German" and actually speaking German is frustrating, and honestly, it's not your fault. Most resources teach the language of exercises, not the language of people.
That's what I set out to change with this course. Everything here — from the very first lesson on German sounds to the final section on real conversations — is built around one question: will this help you communicate with a real German speaker? If the answer wasn't yes, it didn't make the cut. That's why you'll spend time on pronunciation before vocabulary, why grammar is explained in plain terms and tied immediately to sentences you'd actually say, and why there's an entire section dedicated to training your ear for natural, native-speed German. These aren't just nice extras — they're the difference between a learner who freezes and one who actually speaks.
I also know that adults learning a language carry a particular kind of pressure that kids don't. You worry about sounding silly. You feel like you should be faster. You've convinced yourself maybe you're "just not a language person." I want to gently but firmly push back on all of that. The students who do best in this course aren't the ones with the most natural talent — they're the ones who stayed curious, followed the structure, and gave themselves permission to make mistakes out loud. This course is designed to make all of that easier.
So whether you're planning a trip to Germany, Austria, or Switzerland and want to do more than just point at menus — or you're reconnecting with a family heritage and want to finally understand what your grandparents were saying — or you simply want the deep, quiet satisfaction of speaking a rich and beautiful language: you're in the right place. Let's build something real together. Auf geht's.
