A note from your teacher
Jenellie Hudson
Hi, I see you. You've watched your child go quiet in a crowd, avoid putting their hand up in class, or come home frustrated because the words just wouldn't come out right. Maybe it's a tricky R that keeps sliding away, or syllables that tangle up before they reach the end of the word, or a stutter that makes your heart ache a little every time — not because anything is wrong with your child, but because you know there's so much they want to say.
That feeling is exactly why I built Speak Up Kids.
I believe that every child already has a voice. What they need is a safe, structured, joyful place to practise using it — without pressure, without shame, and with a whole lot of celebrating along the way. This school is built on the idea that small, consistent wins compound into enormous confidence. A child who can correctly say their S blend today will be the same child delivering a spoken piece in front of others months from now. It happens step by step, and every step counts.
Here's how we do it together: we start at the very foundation — the mouth, the breath, the phonemes — and we build upward. Slow, deliberate pronunciation before natural speed. Isolated sounds before blended syllables. Phrases before full sentences. Conversation skills before a full Confidence Speech. The curriculum is structured so no child ever feels thrown in the deep end, and every section ends with a reward: a chart, a token, a certificate, a quiz that proves how far they've come. Kids love seeing their progress made real and visible.
I also want to speak directly to the grown-ups here: you don't need to be a speech therapist to use this school. You need to show up, cheer your child on, and work through the activities together. The lessons are designed to be done with you — because a parent or caregiver who cheers every small win is one of the most powerful forces in a child's speech development.
If your child has been working with a speech-language pathologist, this school makes a brilliant practice companion between sessions. If you're just beginning to notice challenges and aren't sure where to start, this is a warm, structured, expert-informed place to begin. Either way, you're in the right place — and so is your child. I can't wait to cheer them on.
