Speak Vietnamese from day one

My goal is simple: get you to the moment a native speaker understands you — and then make sure it keeps happening.

A note from your teacher
Ina Truong
Maybe you've been meaning to learn Vietnamese for years. Maybe you have family members you wish you could speak with in their own language — really speak with, not just smile and nod. Maybe you're planning a trip and you want to do more than point at a menu. Or maybe Vietnamese has simply captured your heart, and you want in on one of the world's most expressive, musical languages.
Whatever brought you here, I want you to know: you're not too late, and it's not too hard. Vietnamese looks and sounds unfamiliar to English speakers, and I won't pretend otherwise. But I've spent a long time thinking about exactly where learners get stuck — the tones that seem random at first, the pronoun system that feels socially loaded, the grammar that doesn't match anything in English — and I've built this course to walk you through each of those moments clearly, patiently, and without leaving you behind.
We start at the foundation: the script, the sounds, the tones. Not because it's the "textbook" way, but because getting those right early means everything you learn after actually sticks. You won't just memorize phrases — you'll understand the architecture of the language. You'll know why Vietnamese uses classifiers, why tense works the way it does, and why calling someone by the right pronoun is one of the kindest things you can do in Vietnamese culture. That cultural layer isn't an add-on here; it's woven into every single lesson.
I also believe that small wins matter enormously. The first time you correctly produce a rising tone and a native speaker's face lights up with recognition — that moment is real, and it will fuel everything that comes next. My job is to get you to that moment as quickly and enjoyably as possible, and then keep stacking those wins until you're ordering phở, negotiating at a market, and catching words in a Vietnamese podcast.
This course meets you exactly where you are. If you're starting from zero, perfect — we've got you completely. If you're a heritage learner who grew up hearing Vietnamese at home, you'll finally get the framework to make sense of what you already half-know. Either way, the path forward is clear, step by step, from your very first tone to your first real conversation.
Come in. Chào mừng bạn. Let's start speaking.
