Texas Algebra 2

"I believe every Texas student can master Algebra 2 — they just need it explained clearly, connected to something real, and tied directly to what Texas actually expects them to know."Tom Schaeper

What you'll learn

What you'll be able to do

  • Solve and graph quadratic, polynomial, rational, and radical functions with confidence, meeting all related Texas TEKS standards.
  • Analyze exponential and logarithmic functions — including transformations and real-world growth/decay models — as required by TEKS A2.5.
  • Perform operations on polynomials, factor higher-degree expressions, and apply the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra to find complex roots.
  • Solve systems of equations and inequalities (linear, quadratic, and absolute value) using algebraic and graphical methods.
  • Interpret and apply statistical measures — including data distributions, regression equations, and correlation — to draw conclusions from real datasets.
  • Demonstrate mastery on TEKS-aligned assessments and build test-taking strategies that transfer directly to STAAR Algebra 2 and college-readiness exams.

1

Foundations & Function Families Review

Establishes the algebraic and graphical fluency students need before tackling Algebra 2 content. Students revisit function notation, domain and range, parent function transformations, and systems of linear equations — ensuring every prerequisite skill is firmly in place. This module directly addresses TEKS A2.2 and A2.7 readiness standards and prevents misconceptions from compounding in later modules.

  • 1.1Function Notation, Domain, and RangeIncluded
  • 1.2Transformations of Parent FunctionsIncluded
  • 1.3Systems of Linear Equations & Inequalities ReviewIncluded
2

Quadratic Functions & Equations

A deep study of quadratic functions covering graphical analysis, all solution methods, complex numbers, and inequalities — fully aligned to TEKS A2.4(A–F) and A2.6. Building on the transformations foundation from Module 1, students graph parabolas with confidence, choose the most efficient solution strategy, and extend the number system to include complex roots. Quadratic inequalities close the module and bridge directly into Module 6's systems work.

  • 2.1Graphing Quadratics & Key FeaturesIncluded
  • 2.2Solving Quadratic Equations — All MethodsIncluded
  • 2.3The Discriminant & Complex RootsIncluded
  • 2.4Quadratic InequalitiesIncluded
3

Polynomials — Operations, Factors & Roots

Extends student mastery from quadratics to higher-degree polynomial functions, fully covering TEKS A2.7(A–C) and A2.8. Students perform polynomial operations, divide using long and synthetic division, factor completely, and apply the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra. Complex roots from Module 2 are revisited and formalized here. This module is the direct prerequisite for the rational functions work in Module 4.

  • 3.1Polynomial Operations & End BehaviorIncluded
  • 3.2Dividing Polynomials — Long Division & Synthetic DivisionIncluded
  • 3.3Factoring Polynomials — All StrategiesIncluded
  • 3.4Roots, Zeros & The Fundamental Theorem of AlgebraIncluded
4

Rational & Radical Functions

Covers rational expressions and radical functions from algebraic operations through graphical analysis and equation solving — aligning to TEKS A2.6(A–D) and A2.8(B). Polynomial division from Module 3 is applied immediately to simplifying rational expressions. Students graph rational functions identifying asymptotes and holes, then solve equations and check for extraneous solutions. Radical functions are introduced as a natural bridge to inverse functions.

  • 4.1Rational Expressions — Simplifying & OperatingIncluded
  • 4.2Graphing Rational Functions — Asymptotes & HolesIncluded
  • 4.3Radical Functions — Graphs, Domain & TransformationsIncluded
  • 4.4Solving Rational & Radical EquationsIncluded
5

Exponential & Logarithmic Functions

Provides complete coverage of TEKS A2.5(A–D), including exponential and logarithmic graphs, transformations, properties, equation solving, and real-world growth/decay modeling. The module is intentionally placed after polynomial and rational work so students bring strong algebraic manipulation skills to logarithmic properties. Graphing logarithmic functions is treated as a separate lesson to give it the depth TEKS A2.5 requires.

  • 5.1Exponential Functions — Graphs, Transformations & ModelsIncluded
  • 5.2Logarithms — Definition, Properties & Change of BaseIncluded
  • 5.3Solving Exponential & Logarithmic EquationsIncluded
  • 5.4Graphing Logarithmic Functions & Real-World ModelingIncluded
6

Systems of Equations & Inequalities

Extends Module 1's linear systems review to non-linear systems involving quadratics, absolute value, and inequalities with curved boundaries — fully meeting TEKS A2.3(A–C). Students solve algebraically and graphically, interpret the meaning of solutions in context, and work with absolute value equations and inequalities as a distinct sub-topic. This module is placed after quadratics and polynomials so students can solve the non-linear components fluently.

  • 6.1Linear-Quadratic & Quadratic-Quadratic SystemsIncluded
  • 6.2Systems of Inequalities with Non-Linear BoundariesIncluded
  • 6.3Absolute Value Equations, Inequalities & SystemsIncluded
7

Statistics, Data Analysis & STAAR Exam Readiness

Covers TEKS A2.9(A–E) on data distributions, regression, and correlation, then consolidates all prior content through STAAR-aligned review, mixed problem sets, and test-taking strategy instruction. Placing statistics after all function families allows students to use regression tools meaningfully with real data. The STAAR readiness lesson ensures students leave the course prepared for high-stakes assessment and college-readiness exams.

  • 7.1Data Distributions & Summary StatisticsIncluded
  • 7.2Regression Models & CorrelationIncluded
  • 7.3STAAR Algebra 2 Exam Readiness & Test StrategiesIncluded

Tom Schaeper

If you've ever stared at an Algebra 2 problem — rational functions, logarithms, systems of nonlinear equations — and felt that sinking feeling like everyone else understands something you missed, I want you to know: you didn't miss it. It just wasn't taught to you in a way that stuck. That's exactly why I built this course.

Texas Algebra 2 is hard. Not because students aren't smart enough, but because the concepts come fast, the vocabulary is dense, and most resources weren't written for Texas students, with Texas standards, and the STAAR exam sitting at the end of the road. I wanted to change that. Every lesson here was written with a real Texas student in mind — someone who needs clarity, not jargon; encouragement, not intimidation; and a logical path forward, not a wall of formulas.

Here's what you'll actually get: step-by-step lessons that start with what you already know and build up carefully from there. We begin with a real foundations review — because skipping that is exactly where most courses lose people — and then move through quadratics, polynomials, rational and radical functions, exponential and logarithmic models, systems, and statistics. Each unit is structured so the pieces click together. You'll see worked examples that show every step, and you'll always understand why you're doing what you're doing, not just how.

I know the objection: "I've tried to learn this before and it didn't work." I hear that. But I'd ask you to notice what's different here: this isn't a generic Algebra 2 course retrofitted for Texas. It's built from the ground up around the Texas TEKS — every standard, every concept, every type of problem that shows up on the STAAR. The last unit is entirely dedicated to exam readiness, because mastering the material and being ready to demonstrate it on a high-stakes test are two different skills, and you deserve both.

Whether you're a student trying to finally pass this class, a parent sitting down at the kitchen table to help your kid, or a teacher looking for a TEKS-aligned supplement you can trust — you're in the right place. Come in, take it one step at a time, and let's get you there.
