- Recognize and describe the four main gaits (walk, trot/jog, canter/lope, gallop) and explain basic rider aids used to communicate with a horse.
- Demonstrate horse-safe behavior: how to approach, lead, tie, and move around horses, and explain why each safety rule matters.
- Name essential grooming tools, daily care routines, hoof-care basics, and common health and veterinary vocabulary used in real barns.

Kimberly Williams
Hey there, horse lover — and welcome to the barn! 🐴
If you've ever stood next to a horse and felt that mix of total awe and "wait, what do I even call that part?" — you are in exactly the right place. Maybe you've been riding for a little while and want to actually understand what your trainer is talking about. Maybe you've been dreaming about horses your whole life and haven't had the chance to get close to one yet. Maybe you're a parent who wants to give your horse-crazy kid something real and structured to dig into. Wherever you're starting from, I see you — and I built this course for you.
I created Texas Equine – What Do You Know? because I believe the horse world shouldn't feel like a secret club with a language only insiders know. Horses have their own vocabulary, their own rules, their own culture — and it is rich and fascinating and honestly so much fun once someone opens the door. That's what I want to be for every student who walks through here: the person who opens the door wide and says, "Come on in! Let me show you around."
This course takes you from "I know horses are beautiful" all the way to naming tack, reading horse body language, explaining the difference between a canter and a lope, walking through a barn with real confidence, and completing a full-on Horse Challenge that covers everything. We do it through photos, matching games, visual challenges, and the kind of short, punchy lessons that never feel like homework — because if it feels like homework, we're doing it wrong. Every lesson is designed to make you lean in and say, "Ooh, I didn't know that — tell me more."
I want every kid and beginner who finishes this course to walk into a barn and feel at home. To know what the farrier does, why you always approach from the left, what "hands" means when someone's measuring a horse, and how to tell a Quarter Horse from a Thoroughbred. That's real knowledge — the kind that makes riding lessons click faster, makes barn time richer, and makes horse people light up when they realize you get it.
So — are you ready to explore the horse world from the ground up, earn your Texas Equine Certificate, and have a whole lot of fun along the way? Boots optional. Curiosity required. Let's go! 🤠
