Foundations of Faith — Knowing Who You Are in Christ
This foundational module establishes the bedrock of Christian discipleship. Students are introduced to the Gospel in its full biblical scope, the nature and authority of Scripture, their identity as new creations in Christ, and what it practically means to follow Jesus as a committed disciple. This module is intentionally placed first because every subsequent topic — hermeneutics, spiritual formation, ministry, and leadership — presupposes a clear grasp of the Gospel and a settled identity in Christ. No theological or ministerial growth is sustainable without this anchor.
- 1.1The Gospel — What It Is and Why Everything Depends on ItIncluded
- 1.2The Authority and Sufficiency of ScriptureIncluded
- 1.3Identity in Christ — Who the Gospel Makes YouIncluded
- 1.4The Discipline of Discipleship — What It Means to Follow JesusIncluded
The Word Opened — Biblical Literacy, Hermeneutics, and Theology
This module develops the student's ability to accurately read, interpret, and apply the whole counsel of God's Word. It moves from big-picture biblical literacy to precise hermeneutical method to the foundational doctrines of God, Christ, and salvation. This sequencing is essential: students must understand the shape of the biblical story before applying interpretive tools, and they must know how to use those tools before constructing systematic theology. The addition of a dedicated lesson on the Holy Spirit at this stage prepares students for the spiritual formation module that follows, ensuring pneumatology is not treated as an afterthought but as a core theological conviction.
- 2.1How to Read the Bible — Genre, Context, and the Biblical StoryIncluded
- 2.2Hermeneutics — The Science and Art of Biblical InterpretationIncluded
- 2.3Inductive Bible Study — Observe, Interpret, ApplyIncluded
- 2.4Theology Proper — Knowing the God of the BibleIncluded
- 2.5Christology and Soteriology — Who Jesus Is and What He Has DoneIncluded
- 2.6Pneumatology — The Person and Work of the Holy SpiritIncluded
Formed in the Fire — Spiritual Disciplines and Christlike Character
With theological foundations and biblical literacy in place, this module turns to the interior life of the disciple. Spiritual formation is not behavior modification; it is the Spirit-empowered, grace-driven process of becoming increasingly conformed to the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29). Students engage the theology of transformation, practice the classical spiritual disciplines, and develop a personalized rhythm of grace that will sustain a lifetime of faithful discipleship. This module directly fulfills the target outcome of developing consistent, sustainable personal spiritual disciplines as the foundation of Christlike character.
- 3.1The Theology of Spiritual Formation — Why We Are Transformed, Not Just InformedIncluded
- 3.2The Discipline of Prayer — Conversing with the Living GodIncluded
- 3.3Scripture Meditation and Memorization — Renewing the MindIncluded
- 3.4Fasting, Solitude, Sabbath, and the Rhythms of GraceIncluded
- 3.5Character Formation — The Fruit of the Spirit in Daily LifeIncluded
Gifted for Service — Spiritual Gifts, Ecclesiology, and Ministry Deployment
Spiritual maturity that does not flow outward into service is incomplete. This module moves the student from the interior life of formation to the active, embodied life of service within the local church and broader Body of Christ. Students discover and deploy their spiritual gifts, develop a robust theology of the Church (ecclesiology), and complete a structured ministry practicum. The addition of a corporate worship lesson ensures students understand worship as a communal spiritual discipline and missional witness — a gap in the original draft.
- 4.1The Theology of Spiritual Gifts — Given by the Spirit, for the BodyIncluded
- 4.2Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts — Assessment, Affirmation, and ActivationIncluded
- 4.3Ecclesiology — The Church: Theology, Structure, and MissionIncluded
- 4.4Corporate Worship — The Gathered Church as Spiritual Discipline and Missional WitnessIncluded
- 4.5Active Ministry Practicum — Serving in the Local ChurchIncluded
The Sent Life — Evangelism, Discipleship Multiplication, and the Great Commission
This module shifts the disciple's gaze from inward formation and local church service to outward mission. Students are equipped to share the Gospel with clarity and confidence, make disciples through a reproducible relational model, and understand the broader movements of disciple-making that are transforming the global church. This module directly fulfills the target outcome of leading, coaching, and multiplying disciples through a reproducible model aligned with the Great Commission. The addition of a cross-cultural and global mission lesson ensures the Great Commission's 'all nations' scope is not reduced to a local strategy.
- 5.1The Great Commission — Mandate, Method, and MotivationIncluded
- 5.2Relational Evangelism — Sharing the Gospel Naturally and BoldlyIncluded
- 5.3Making Disciples — The Reproducible Relational ModelIncluded
- 5.4Disciple-Making Movements — Building Systems That MultiplyIncluded
- 5.5Cross-Cultural Mission and Global Discipleship — Going to All NationsIncluded
Leading for the Kingdom — Ministry Leadership, Contextual Strategy, and Legacy
The final module brings together every preceding element — theology, formation, gifting, evangelism, and disciple-making — into mature, Spirit-led ministry leadership. Students develop a theology of servant leadership, grow in sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's direction in ministry, design a real contextual ministry plan, develop the skills of coaching and mentoring, and complete a comprehensive Capstone that integrates and assesses all learning outcomes. This module is designed to commission students not merely as graduates but as reproducible disciple-making leaders sent on Great Commission mission.
- 6.1Theology of Leadership — The Servant-Leader Model of JesusIncluded
- 6.2Pneumatology in Practice — Being Led by the Holy Spirit in MinistryIncluded
- 6.3Contextual Ministry Design — Theology Meets RealityIncluded
- 6.4Coaching, Mentoring, and Leadership MultiplicationIncluded
- 6.5Capstone — Ministry Integration, Assessment, and Great Commission CommissioningIncluded

A note from your teacher
Tracy Benningfield
Perhaps you picked up your Bible this week meaning to study it — and closed it again, unsure where to start. Or perhaps you have been a believer for years, serving faithfully, and yet something in you knows that your faith and your ministry were meant to go deeper than they have. You sense that discipleship is not a program you complete but a life you inhabit — and you are looking for a pathway that takes that seriously.
I built The Discipleship Experience for you.
What you will find here is not a motivational course dressed in Christian language, nor a dry theology lecture with no connection to Monday morning. This is a carefully structured, Scripture-saturated journey through everything a maturing disciple needs: a rock-solid Gospel foundation, the tools to read and interpret God's Word accurately for yourself, the spiritual disciplines that genuinely form Christlike character over time, a clear theology of who the Holy Spirit is and how He leads, and a reproducible model for making disciples who make disciples — all the way to the ends of the earth.
I know the objection that may be forming: "I'm not a theologian. I'm not a pastor. This probably isn't for me." Friend, Jesus's invitation in Matthew 28 was not addressed to the credentialed few. He said "make disciples of all nations" — and that means every believer is called to be formed and to form others. This curriculum gives you the biblical grounding, the spiritual habits, and the practical frameworks to answer that call faithfully, whether you are sitting in a pew, leading a small group, planting a church, or serving on a mission field.
My deepest conviction, and the conviction that runs through every module of this academy, is this: the goal of discipleship is not the accumulation of knowledge — it is conformity to Christ, expressed in love for God, love for the Church, and love for a lost world. Everything in this curriculum exists to serve that end. Come and be formed. Come and be equipped. Come and be sent.
