Stop training your dog. Start knowing them.
The Habibi Method is a six-module philosophy-rooted school that replaces commands and correction with presence, rhythm, and deep mutual trust — so you and your dog can finally feel at home with each other.

"Your dog has been reading you fluently since the day you met — this school is where you finally learn to read them back."— Julie Abouelela

What you'll learn
What you'll be able to do
- Read your dog's emotional state with confidence by understanding body language, energy, and context rather than relying on obedience cues alone.
- Replace fear- or correction-based habits with presence-based interactions that build lasting trust between you and your dog.
- Establish a daily rhythm and shared routine that makes your dog feel secure, seen, and genuinely at home with you.
- Resolve common tension points — pulling, anxiety, reactivity, ignoring — by addressing the relational root rather than the surface behaviour.
- Develop your own awareness as a companion: learn how your mood, movement, and intention directly shape your dog's behaviour.
- Articulate and live by a personal philosophy of dog companionship that guides every walk, every meal, and every quiet moment together.

The Familiar Bond — What It Is and Why It Changes Everything
This foundational module introduces the core philosophy of the Habibi Method: that the relationship between human and dog is not one of handler and subject, but of two beings who can genuinely know each other. Students examine what a 'familiar bond' actually means, how it differs from trained compliance, and why shifting this lens changes every interaction. Essential prerequisite concepts — emotional attunement, relational trust, and the dog's inner life — are established here before any skill-based content begins.
- 1.1Beyond Obedience — The Relationship You Were Never Taught to HaveIncluded
- 1.2The Habibi Concept — Familiarity as a Living PracticeIncluded
- 1.3Your Dog's Inner Life — Emotion, Memory, and the Drive to ConnectIncluded
Learning to See — Reading Your Dog with Depth and Accuracy
With the relational foundation set, students now develop the perceptual skills the Habibi Method depends on. Reading a dog accurately — in posture, micro-signal, energy, and context — is treated not as a technical checklist but as an act of sustained, loving attention. Lessons progress from the physical signal inward to emotional state, then outward to the full situational picture, building a complete and layered observational practice.
- 2.1The Body Speaks First — Reading Posture, Movement, and Micro-SignalsIncluded
- 2.2Energy Over Action — What Your Dog Is Feeling Beneath the BehaviourIncluded
- 2.3Context Is Everything — Reading the Whole PictureIncluded
The Companion Within — Knowing How You Shape Your Dog
This module turns the lens onto the human. The Habibi Method holds that a dog's behaviour is always, in part, a portrait of their companion — the companion's nervous system, movement, intention, and inner state are constantly broadcast and received. Students examine how they themselves show up, identify habits that may be creating tension or confusion, and begin the practice of becoming the grounded, clear, trustworthy presence their dog needs. This module is deliberately placed before tension-resolution content, because the human must be addressed before the dog's behaviour can be meaningfully changed.
- 3.1Your Nervous System Is Contagious — How Your State Becomes Their StateIncluded
- 3.2Movement, Intention, and the Silent ConversationIncluded
- 3.3Your Dog Is Responding to a Version of You — Becoming Worth FollowingIncluded
Rhythm, Ritual, and the Gift of Security
Security is not a feeling dogs stumble upon — it is something the companion architects through consistent rhythm, meaningful ritual, and a home environment that communicates safety at every level. This module draws on the Habibi Method's understanding of the dog's need for predictability and belonging, showing students how structure — far from being restrictive — is one of the deepest expressions of love. The walk, the shared space, and the daily rhythm are all treated as relational opportunities, not logistical tasks.
- 4.1The Architecture of a Dog's Day — Why Rhythm Is LoveIncluded
- 4.2Shared Space, Shared Life — Creating a Home That Speaks SafetyIncluded
- 4.3The Walk as Relationship — Reclaiming the Daily Walk as Sacred TimeIncluded
Roots of Tension — Resolving the Real Problem Beneath the Problem
This module addresses the most common friction points students encounter with their dogs — but always from the inside out. Pulling, reactivity, disconnection, and separation distress are not treated as training failures to be corrected but as communications to be understood and relational ruptures to be repaired. By this point in the course, students have the perceptual and self-awareness skills to engage with these challenges as the Habibi Method intends: with curiosity, groundedness, and genuine relational intelligence. The module is placed here — after all foundational and self-awareness content — precisely because these issues cannot be sustainably resolved without that foundation.
- 5.1What Pulling Is Really Saying — Leash Work as a DialogueIncluded
- 5.2Reactivity and the Flooded Dog — Responding Instead of ReactingIncluded
- 5.3When Your Dog 'Ignores' You — Rebuilding the Magnetic Pull of ConnectionIncluded
- 5.4Separation and the Severed Thread — Building a Dog Who Trusts Your ReturnIncluded
Your Philosophy of Companionship — Living the Habibi Method
The final module asks students to move from learning to living — to synthesise everything they have absorbed into a coherent, personal philosophy of dog companionship that will guide them long after the course ends. Drawing directly on the book's closing vision, students articulate what they now believe, examine how they handle the hard moments that will inevitably come, and commit to the ongoing, lifelong conversation the Habibi bond requires. This module is a culmination, not a summary — it looks forward.
- 6.1Naming Your Philosophy — What You Now Believe About Dogs and CompanionshipIncluded
- 6.2Hard Moments, Honest Practice — Staying Relational When It's DifficultIncluded
- 6.3The Ongoing Conversation — Growing Together for LifeIncluded

Your dog carries a history you can't fully know, and you need a presence-first approach that rebuilds trust before anything else.

Your dog's reactivity or separation anxiety feels like a wall between you, and you want to understand what's really driving it — and how to help.
The mindful companion
You already live with intention and presence in your own life, and you want your relationship with your dog to reflect those same values.

A note from your teacher
Julie Abouelela
If you're here, I suspect you've felt it — that quiet discomfort that sits beneath an otherwise fine life with your dog. Not a crisis. Not a disaster. Just a persistent sense that the relationship could be more than it is. That there's a depth of understanding available to you that no one has quite shown you how to reach.
I know that feeling. It's what sent me searching, years ago, past the training manuals and the correction techniques and the well-meaning advice, into something older and quieter: the question of what it actually means to know a dog. Not to manage them. Not to shape their behaviour into something convenient. To genuinely know them — and to let them know you.
What I found changed everything about how I moved through the world with a dog. I started to see things I'd been too busy correcting to notice: the micro-shift in posture before a reaction, the way a dog's body softens or braces depending on what kind of energy you bring into the room, the profound difference between a walk that's about destination and a walk that's about relationship. And I saw, just as clearly, how much of what we call 'problem behaviour' is really a dog trying, patiently and persistently, to tell us something we haven't yet learned to hear.
The Habibi Method is my attempt to give you the language to hear it. Across six modules, I'll walk you through how to read your dog with real depth and accuracy — body language, energy, context, the whole picture. We'll look honestly at how your own mood, movement, and nervous system become your dog's reality. We'll build the rhythms and rituals that make a home feel safe. And we'll sit together with the hard moments — the pulling and the reactivity and the dog who won't come when called — and find the relational thread underneath each one.
This school asks something of you. It asks you to slow down, to observe before you react, and to consider that your dog is not a problem to be solved but a companion to be met. If you're willing to do that — if something in you already believes it's possible — then I think you'll find what I found: that the relationship you sensed was there all along was simply waiting for you to learn how to enter it. Come in. There's tea on. Let's begin.
