Who it's for

Is this you?

The Faith-Curious Beginner

You believe — or you want to — but every time you've tried to read the Bible on your own, the language shut the door on you before you got started.

The Young Urban Believer

You grew up in church but want to understand the Word for yourself, in language that sounds like your life and not like a Sunday morning performance.

The Urban Parent

You want to pass real faith down to your kids but need to actually understand the Bible yourself before you can explain it to them.

The Lapsed Churchgoer

You stepped away from organized religion but never walked away from God — and you're ready to reconnect with scripture on your own terms.

The Community Leader

You lead conversations in your block, your group, or your circle and want the scriptural grounding to spark real, meaningful discussions about faith and life.

The Teen Finding Their Way

You're asking the big questions about faith, purpose, and where you fit in — and you need answers in a voice that actually respects where you're coming from.

Dora Edney

I know what it feels like to hold a Bible and still feel locked out.

Maybe you grew up hearing scripture read out loud in church and nodded along because everyone else was nodding — but if someone had pulled you aside and asked you what it actually meant, you wouldn't have been able to say. Maybe you picked up a King James Bible on your own and hit "thee" and "thou" and "begat" and closed it before you got to chapter two. Maybe you believe, or you want to believe, but the language always felt like it belonged to a world that wasn't yours. That's not a spiritual failure. That's just what happens when a tool isn't built for the person using it.

I built The Urban Bible because the Word deserves to be heard by everybody — not just people who grew up in Sunday school, not just people with a seminary degree, not just people who already know where Habakkuk sits in the Old Testament. The scripture was written to reach real people living real lives. Kings and broke people. Faithful people and people who messed up badly and came back. People who were overlooked, people who were powerful, people who were wandering. Those stories are your stories. They've always been your stories. They just needed to be told in a language that makes that clear.

Every book in this curriculum — from Genesis to Revelation — is broken down the way I'd break it down sitting across from you at the kitchen table. No condescension. No assumption that you already know the context. No shortcuts around the hard parts either, because the hard parts are where the real wisdom lives. We go through Leviticus and Numbers because understanding the rules helps you understand the grace. We go through the prophets because those voices were speaking directly to communities that felt abandoned — and a lot of us know that feeling. We go through Revelation not to scare anyone but to show you how the whole story ends and why it matters.

What I want for you is simple: I want you to be able to open any page of the Bible, in any version, and feel at home. I want you to be able to explain Job to a friend who's going through something devastating and have it actually land. I want you to build a study habit that fits your real life — not the life you're supposed to have according to someone else's idea of what a believer looks like. The Word has been waiting for you. Come and get it.
