Tracy Burke

If you're reading this, I'd guess you've had a version of the same uncomfortable thought: I should really be doing something with my money. Maybe you've been meaning to open a brokerage account for two years. Maybe you have one but haven't touched it because you're not sure what you're doing. Maybe you watched the market do something dramatic — up or down — and felt a pang of anxiety because you genuinely didn't know how to interpret it. You're not behind because you're careless. You're behind because nobody ever taught you this stuff in a way that actually stuck.

I built The Intelligent Investor because the information gap on personal investing is embarrassing. There's plenty of content out there — but most of it is either too basic to be useful, too technical to be accessible, or dressed up in so much hype that you can't tell signal from noise. What I kept seeing was smart, capable people who could run a business, manage a team, or navigate a complex career — completely frozen when it came to their own finances. That's a solvable problem.

This curriculum is structured the way I wish someone had taught me: starting with the honest truth about why most people's default financial behavior is quietly working against them, moving through the mechanics of markets and accounts, and building up to the analytical tools you need to evaluate any investment with confidence. We cover financial statements not because you're going to become an analyst, but because understanding what you own is the foundation of being a serious investor. We cover tax-advantaged accounts because there is simply no reason to pay more tax than you're legally required to.

The thing I care most about — and the thing that separates this course from a list of investing tips — is the Personal Investment Policy Statement you'll write at the end. Markets will crash again. They always do. And when they do, the investors who hold steady and come out ahead aren't the ones who were the calmest by nature. They're the ones who made their decisions before the panic started. That document is your pre-commitment to rational behavior under pressure. It's the last thing we build, and in many ways it's the most important.

I treat every student in this course the way I'd want to be treated: like an intelligent adult who simply needs a reliable framework and an honest guide. No condescension. No get-rich-quick promises. No jargon for its own sake. Just the clearest possible path from where you are now to a portfolio that compounds quietly in your favor — for decades. Let's build it.
