Find the joy that actually holds up

Positive psychology has real answers about lasting wellbeing — and they're more useful, and more honest, than anything the self-help aisle has been selling you. This school separates the science from the myth and gives you practices that work in real life, not just on vision boards.

"I'd rather give you one practice that the research actually supports than ten that sound beautiful but fall apart the moment life gets hard."

Who it's for

Is this you?

The skeptical self-improver

He wants to grow but rolls his eyes at manifesting content — this school finally speaks his language.

The burnt-out optimist

She's read the books, done the journals, and is tired of motivation that evaporates — she needs practices that hold up.

The research-minded curious

He loves diving into psychology studies but wants someone to translate the findings into a liveable daily practice.

The Law of Attraction graduate

She got real value from attraction thinking but suspects there's a more rigorous framework underneath — and she's right.

The philosophical elder

He's drawn to Stoic and ancient wisdom traditions and wants to see how modern psychology confirms — or complicates — what the ancients knew.

The goal-setter who keeps stalling

She visualizes her goals clearly but can't seem to bridge the gap to action — WOOP is exactly the missing piece she's been looking for.

Emmanuel Udoeyo

If you've ever finished a self-help book feeling briefly inspired and then quietly disappointed — like the promise was real but the instructions were somehow missing — I want you to know I understand that feeling completely. It's not a character flaw. It's the entirely reasonable response to advice that isn't grounded in how human minds actually work.

I built The Joy Lab because I kept finding myself caught between two unsatisfying options: the unscientific but emotionally compelling world of manifestation and attraction thinking on one side, and the dry, jargon-heavy academic literature on wellbeing on the other. Neither one felt like the whole story. The science of positive psychology has genuinely important things to say about what creates lasting joy — but it rarely gets translated into something you can actually use on a Tuesday morning when things aren't going your way.

What I've tried to create here is the honest middle ground. We look directly at the Law of Attraction — not to mock it, but to ask the more interesting question: which parts of this are real? The answer, it turns out, is nuanced and genuinely useful. Self-fulfilling prophecy is real. Selective attention is real. Expectancy effects are real. Some of the more magical claims are not — and knowing the difference makes you more effective, not less hopeful.

The same rigor runs through everything in the school: the gratitude research (including why the standard journaling advice often fizzles), the case for joy that doesn't hinge on your circumstances (a very old idea that modern psychology has now largely confirmed), and the WOOP method, which is probably the most underrated tool in applied psychology for actually achieving what you set out to do.

I won't promise you that this school will change your life. I'll promise you something I think is more valuable: it will give you a clear, evidence-based framework for changing it yourself — and the specific practices to make that framework real. That's a quieter promise than most of what's out there. I believe it's a more honest one.

If you're ready to trade magical thinking for something that actually holds up, I'd love to have you in The Joy Lab.
