Raise the generation that breaks the cycle
Rooted & Rising gives Black parents, grandparents, and caregivers the culturally grounded tools to heal themselves, discipline with dignity, and raise children who are emotionally whole, racially proud, and deeply confident — all without losing the love that holds your family together.

I built this school because the most powerful gift you can give your child is a healed version of you — and that work is worth every bit of the effort it takes.

He didn't have a model for emotionally present fatherhood and is committed to being the dad his children can talk to, trust, and run toward.
The community educator
He works with Black children every day and wants culturally grounded strategies to support their emotional wellbeing and racial pride inside and outside the classroom.
The new parent doing the work
She's just starting her parenting journey and wants to build a strong, intentional foundation before old patterns have a chance to take root.
The extended family mentor
She's an auntie, godmother, or family anchor who plays a major role in the children around her and wants to show up as part of the healing village.

A note from your teacher
Inas Shabazz
I want to start by saying something I needed to hear before I ever picked up a parenting book: the fact that you're here, asking these questions and looking for something better — that already makes you a different kind of caregiver than what many of us had.
I know what it's like to love your children fiercely and still feel like something from your own childhood keeps showing up in the room. You snap in ways you swore you wouldn't. You go quiet when your child needs you to open up. Or you find yourself saying the exact words your mother said to you — the ones that still sting — and you feel that sting all over again, because now you're the one saying them. That cycle isn't a character flaw. It's a wound that was never given the chance to heal. And wounds don't stop bleeding just because we don't talk about them.
That's why I built Rooted & Rising. Not as a course that hands you a checklist and calls it parenting, but as a real, honest journey — one that starts with you, because the most powerful thing you can do for your child is do your own work. We start by looking at what you inherited: the patterns, the triggers, the silences, and the survival strategies that made sense once but may not be serving your family now. Then we move forward — into how to actually talk to your children so they feel heard, how to set boundaries and consequences that teach without crushing, how to have conversations about race and safety and the world outside your door, and how to raise children who know exactly who they are and where they come from.
Every lesson in this school was built for our families — not adapted from frameworks that left us out, but rooted in Black lived experience, ancestral wisdom, and the kind of straight talk you'd get from a trusted elder who loves you enough to keep it real. No jargon. No shame. Just the tools, the truth, and the encouragement to keep going — because the generation coming up behind you deserves a different inheritance. Come build it with me. The village is right here, and there's room for you.
