Stop fighting your brain. Start working with it.
Dr. Beck Bailey's neuroscience-informed framework gives you a clear, practical model for understanding the three states your brain operates from — so you can think clearer, feel steadier, and help the people around you do the same.

Once you understand which state the brain is in, you stop fighting the person and start working with the biology — and that changes everything.— John Bentley

What you'll learn
What you'll be able to do
- Identify which of the three brain states you or someone else is operating from in real time
- Explain the neuroscience behind each state in plain language to clients, students, or colleagues
- Apply targeted strategies to shift out of a threat or shutdown state and into an optimal learning and performance state
- Design daily routines and environments that consistently support your brain's highest-functioning state
- Recognize state-triggered behaviour in others and respond with regulation rather than reaction
- Facilitate group sessions, coaching conversations, or classroom moments using the Three Brain States framework with confidence

Who it's for
Is this you?
Classroom teachers
Finally understand what's happening in your students' brains when they shut down or escalate — and know exactly how to respond.
Coaches & mentors
Add a neuroscience-backed layer to your practice so you can meet clients where their brain actually is, not where you expect it to be.
Therapists & counsellors
Deepen your understanding of threat and shutdown states to better support clients and explain the 'why' behind their responses.
Team leaders & managers
Learn to read brain states in your team, de-escalate high-pressure moments, and design environments that consistently bring out their best.
Self-improvement seekers
Get a grounded, science-informed model for understanding your own mind — and build the routines that make your optimal state the norm.
HR & L&D professionals
Embed a shared brain-state language across your organisation to transform how teams handle stress, conflict, and performance.

John Bentley
If you've ever walked out of a hard conversation thinking, why did I react like that? — or watched a student, client, or colleague completely shut down and had no idea how to reach them — I want you to know: that's not a character flaw. That's a brain state. And once you can see it, everything changes.
I created this course because the neuroscience that explains so much of human behaviour — why we freeze, why we escalate, why some days we're sharp and some days we can barely string a sentence together — has been sitting in research labs and textbooks, largely inaccessible to the people who need it most. Teachers. Coaches. Therapists. Leaders. Parents. People who work with other humans every day and are doing their best without the manual.
The Three Brain States framework is that manual. It gives you a clear, memorable model for understanding what's happening in the brain when behaviour gets confusing, when performance drops, when connection breaks down. And more than that — it gives you something to do about it. You'll learn to read states in real time, shift your own nervous system deliberately, respond to others with regulation instead of reaction, and design the environments and routines that make the optimal state your default, not your exception.
I want to be straightforward with you: this isn't a course you take and then shelve. It's a lens. Once you understand the three states, you'll see them everywhere — in a tense team meeting, in a child who "won't listen," in yourself at 3pm on a Thursday. And you'll have the tools to meet each moment with something more useful than frustration or willpower.
You don't need to be a neuroscientist to use this. You just need to be curious, and willing to look at behaviour — your own and others' — through a new window. I'll take care of the science. You bring the people you care about helping. Let's get to work.
