Maybe you're a high school student who wants to go to college — you really do — but every time you try to figure out where to start, you hit a wall. The SAT feels like a mountain. The application feels like a maze. And the financial aid process? It might as well be written in a foreign language. Or maybe you're a parent who would give anything to help your son or daughter through this, but no one in your family has been through it before, so you're figuring it out in real time, just like they are.
I know that feeling, because despite exceptional grades, athletic accolades, and student government involvement, I was once that low-income, first-generation student whose parents could not help me navigate the foreign territory of college admissions. So, I built University Gateway because that gap — between wanting to get to college and actually knowing how — is one of the most unfair things I've seen. The students who tend to navigate this process smoothly aren't necessarily smarter or more deserving. They just had access to better information, better guidance, and more support along the way.
