Foundations of Yoga: Philosophy, History & Ethics

Establishes the intellectual and ethical bedrock of the entire training. Students encounter yoga as a living tradition — tracing its origins, understanding its philosophical architecture, and contrasting it with Yin's Taoist lineage — before they ever step onto a teaching mat. This sequencing ensures that every asana, cue, and class design choice made later is rooted in something deeper than technique.

  • 1.1The Story of Yoga: Origins, Lineages & Modern PracticeIncluded
  • 1.2The Eight Limbs of Patanjali & the Yoga SutrasIncluded
  • 1.3Taoist Roots of Yin Yoga: Meridians, Qi & Philosophical ContrastIncluded
  • 1.4Yoga Ethics, Teaching Integrity & the Yoga Alliance Code of ConductIncluded
2

Functional Anatomy & Biomechanics for Yoga

Provides the anatomical and biomechanical literacy that separates a safe, intelligent teacher from one who inadvertently causes harm. Lessons move from hard structure (bones and joints) to soft tissue (muscle and fascia) to region-specific risk zones, and conclude with the energetic anatomy model — bridging Western science and yogic tradition. This module is a prerequisite for all alignment, sequencing, and modification work that follows.

  • 2.1The Moving Body: Skeletal Anatomy, Joint Function & Skeletal VariationIncluded
  • 2.2Muscles, Fascia & Connective Tissue: What Actually Stretches?Included
  • 2.3The Spine, Core & Safe Backbending and Forward FoldingIncluded
  • 2.4Hips, Shoulders & Knees: The High-Risk ZonesIncluded
  • 2.5Energetic Anatomy: Prana, Nadis, Chakras & the Subtle BodyIncluded
3

Asana Mastery: Alignment, Cueing & Hands-On Assists

The practical laboratory of the training. Students build a comprehensive asana vocabulary across both Vinyasa and Yin traditions, grounding every pose in the functional anatomy and biomechanics established in the previous module. The progression moves from standing and foundational poses through dynamic floor work and inversions, into the complete Yin library, before addressing the nuanced art of touch-based and prop-based assistance. Sequenced after anatomy so students can immediately apply biomechanical knowledge to each shape.

  • 3.1The Asana Library: Standing, Balancing & Foundational PosesIncluded
  • 3.2Floor, Inversion & Backbend Asana in Vinyasa ContextIncluded
  • 3.3The Complete Yin Asana Library: Shapes, Holds & TargetsIncluded
  • 3.4Consent-Based Hands-On Assists & Prop FacilitationIncluded
4

Pranayama, Meditation & Mind-Body Practices

Develops the student's capacity to teach the non-asana practices that Yoga Alliance standards require and that genuinely complete a yoga class. Moving beyond breathing as an afterthought, this module treats pranayama and meditation as primary disciplines with their own technique, pedagogy, and physiological rationale. Sequenced after asana so students can immediately experience how breath and awareness transform the poses they have just learned.

  • 4.1The Science & Art of PranayamaIncluded
  • 4.2Meditation: Techniques, Neuroscience & Teaching MethodologyIncluded
  • 4.3Integrating Breath & Mindfulness Into Vinyasa and YinIncluded
5

Sequencing, Class Design & Teaching Methodology

The master-craft module where all prior learning — philosophy, anatomy, asana, pranayama, and meditation — converges into the skill of designing and delivering complete, purposeful classes. Covers the structural logic of both Vinyasa and Yin sequencing, the craft of verbal instruction, hands-on practicum teaching, and the ability to adapt intelligently for the full spectrum of students who will walk through any real-world yoga room door.

  • 5.1Vinyasa Sequencing Architecture: From Warm-Up to SavasanaIncluded
  • 5.2Yin Sequencing Logic: Targeting, Theming & Holding EnvironmentsIncluded
  • 5.3Cueing Language, Voice & the Art of Verbal InstructionIncluded
  • 5.4Teaching Practicum: Peer Teaching, Feedback & Self-AssessmentIncluded
  • 5.5Adapting for Special Populations & Mixed-Level ClassesIncluded
6

The Business of Teaching & Yoga Alliance Certification

Ensures that graduates leave not only as skilled teachers but as professionally prepared ones — able to navigate the Yoga Alliance registration process without confusion, articulate their unique teaching voice, and build a teaching life that is financially and personally sustainable. This module is placed last because the teaching identity it asks students to define is authentically earned only after experiencing the full arc of the training.

  • 6.1Yoga Alliance Registration: Requirements, Process & DocumentationIncluded
  • 6.2Finding Your Teaching Voice & Personal Yoga PhilosophyIncluded
  • 6.3Building a Sustainable Yoga Teaching CareerIncluded

Tymothi Howard

If you've been practicing for a year or two — or five — and you keep thinking I want to teach this, I want to speak directly to where you probably are right now.

You love yoga. You feel what it does in your body and your mind. But when you imagine standing at the front of a room, cueing a room full of people through a flow, something tightens. What if I say the wrong thing? What if someone gets hurt? What if I just don't know enough yet? That gap between loving a practice and feeling ready to teach it is exactly what this training is designed to close — carefully, thoroughly, and without rushing you through it.

What I've built in Vinyasa & Yin 200 is the training I wish had existed when I was ready to make this leap. It doesn't skip the hard stuff. We go deep into functional anatomy — not to overwhelm you with Latin terminology, but because understanding what's actually happening in a hip socket or a lumbar vertebra makes you a safer, more confident teacher. We sit with yoga philosophy — the Eight Limbs, the Sutras, the Taoist underpinnings of Yin — not as trivia, but as living frameworks that give your classes meaning and coherence. And we spend serious time on the craft: sequencing architecture, cueing language, consent-based assists, pranayama, meditation — all of it practiced, refined, and applied.

I also want to address the thing that keeps a lot of talented practitioners from enrolling in any training: Am I ready? Here's what I believe — if you've been practicing with sincerity and you feel called to teach, you are ready to be a student of teaching. You don't need to already have the answers. This training is the structured environment where you develop them, make mistakes safely, receive real feedback, and find a voice that sounds like yours — not a copy of your favorite teacher.

By the time you complete your practicum and submit your Yoga Alliance documentation, you won't just be certified. You'll understand why every choice you make in a class serves your students. You'll know how to read a room, how to adapt on the fly, how to hold space for a mixed-level group, and how to keep building a career with integrity. That's the promise of this training — not a fast track to a piece of paper, but a genuine transformation into a teacher.

If you're ready to do the real work, I'd be honored to be your guide through it. Come meet me on the mat.
