1

Foundations of Yoga: Philosophy, History & the Teaching Path

Establishes the intellectual and spiritual bedrock of the training. Students orient themselves within yoga's rich history, understand why philosophy is inseparable from teaching, and begin cultivating the self-awareness that will define their teaching voice. Placed first because all subsequent modules — anatomy, asana, breath — are anchored in this philosophical container.

  • 1.1The Landscape of Yoga: History, Lineages & Modern PracticeIncluded
  • 1.2The Eight Limbs of Patanjali & the Yamas and Niyamas in Daily LifeIncluded
  • 1.3Yin Yoga Philosophy: Taoist Principles, Meridians & the Yin/Yang SpectrumIncluded
  • 1.4Self-Inquiry, Personal Practice & Preventing Teacher BurnoutIncluded
2

Anatomy, Biomechanics & the Science of Safe Practice

Provides the scientific foundation that enables every alignment cue, modification, and hands-on assist a teacher will ever give. Sequenced immediately after philosophy because students need anatomical literacy before they can safely analyze poses (Module 3) or teach others. Yoga Alliance requires functional anatomy as a core competency; this module meets and exceeds that standard by progressing from foundational concepts to high-risk areas to special populations.

  • 2.1Functional Anatomy Fundamentals: Bones, Joints & Skeletal VariationIncluded
  • 2.2Muscles, Fascia & Connective Tissue: What's Actually Stretching in YogaIncluded
  • 2.3The Spine, Core & Safe Backbending PrinciplesIncluded
  • 2.4Hips, Shoulders & Knees: High-Risk Areas in Yoga TeachingIncluded
  • 2.5Special Populations: Modifications for Pregnancy, Injury & Diverse BodiesIncluded
3

Asana Mastery: Vinyasa & Yin Pose Library

Develops technical mastery of the poses that form the vocabulary of both Vinyasa and Yin teaching. Sequenced after anatomy so that every pose analysis is grounded in functional understanding, not imitation. Students move through the full pose library — from foundational linking poses to inversions and peak poses to the complete Yin library — always connecting form to function, risk to modification, and individual pose to class sequence.

  • 3.1Sun Salutations, Standing Poses & the Vinyasa Linking SystemIncluded
  • 3.2Inversions, Arm Balances & Peak Pose ProgressionsIncluded
  • 3.3The Yin Pose Library: Holds, Props & Anatomical TargetsIncluded
  • 3.4Backbends, Twists & Forward Folds Across Both StylesIncluded
4

Breath, Energy & the Subtle Body

Bridges the physical and philosophical dimensions of yoga by training students in pranayama technique, breath-led cueing, and the energetic frameworks (chakras, koshas, Yin meridians) that inform thoughtful class theming. Sequenced after asana so students have embodied experience to draw on when exploring how breath and energy shift within the poses they already know. Yoga Alliance requires pranayama as a distinct competency; this module delivers it with both technical rigor and teaching application.

  • 4.1Pranayama Foundations: Ujjayi, Three-Part Breath & Nervous System ScienceIncluded
  • 4.2Breath-Led Cueing: Synchronizing Movement and Breath in VinyasaIncluded
  • 4.3Chakras, Koshas & Theming a Class with Energetic IntentionIncluded
  • 4.4Pranayama as Practice: Teaching the Full Spectrum SafelyIncluded
5

The Art & Craft of Teaching: Sequencing, Voice & Classroom Skills

Transforms knowledge into teaching ability. Students integrate everything from prior modules — philosophy, anatomy, asana, breath — into the practical skills of class design, verbal communication, real-time observation, hands-on assists, and progressive teaching practice. This is the largest skill-building module and the heart of Yoga Alliance's 'Teaching Methodology' requirement. Sequenced after all content modules so teach-backs are substantive and safe from the first session.

  • 5.1The Architecture of a Yoga Class: Sequencing Principles & FrameworksIncluded
  • 5.2The Teacher's Voice: Verbal Cueing, Language & PresenceIncluded
  • 5.3Hands-On Assists, Observation & Real-Time AdaptationIncluded
  • 5.4Progressive Teaching Practicum: From Mini-Teaches to Full-Length ClassesIncluded
  • 5.5Class Planning Systems: Templates, Timing & Managing the UnexpectedIncluded
6

The Yoga Business & Yoga Alliance Certification

Prepares students to transition from trained teacher to working professional with clarity, confidence, and integrity. Covers the practical, logistical, and entrepreneurial dimensions of a yoga teaching career — from Yoga Alliance registration requirements to rate-setting, marketing, studio relationships, and long-term career sustainability. Placed last because it functions as a launchpad: students arrive here with full training behind them and step out ready to teach professionally.

  • 6.1Yoga Alliance RYT-200: Registration, Requirements & Professional StandardsIncluded
  • 6.2Building Your Teaching Schedule, Rates & Studio RelationshipsIncluded
  • 6.3Marketing Your Teaching Authentically: Brand, Social Media & Student RetentionIncluded

Tymothi Howard

If you've been practicing yoga for a while — maybe years — and something in you keeps leaning toward teaching, I want you to know: that pull is worth taking seriously. You're not imagining it. And you don't have to keep waiting until you feel "ready enough."

What I've seen, again and again, is that dedicated practitioners make extraordinary teachers — not because they've mastered every pose, but because they've done enough time on their own mat to understand what yoga actually does to a person. You already know something important. This training is here to help you articulate it, ground it in anatomy and philosophy, and give you the real skills to share it safely and authentically with others.

In this program, we don't skip the hard parts. We go deep into functional anatomy — bones, joints, fascia, the spine, the hips and shoulders — because your students deserve a teacher who understands what's happening in their bodies, not just what a pose is supposed to look like. We study Patanjali's Eight Limbs and the Taoist principles behind Yin practice, not as abstract theory, but as frameworks you'll actually use to theme classes and sustain your own practice. And we build your teaching skills incrementally — from your first awkward mini-teach to a full 60–90 minute class you'll lead with calm, genuine confidence.

I also want to be honest about something: teacher training changes you. Not just what you know about yoga, but how you live it. The self-inquiry practices and the philosophy woven through this curriculum aren't filler — they're the part that will keep you teaching five, ten, twenty years from now without burning out or losing your voice. Your teaching has to come from somewhere real. This training helps you find that place and build from it.

When you finish, you won't just have a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 credential. You'll know how to sequence a class, cue breath, read a room, adapt for diverse bodies, and show up for your students with presence. You'll also know how to register with Yoga Alliance, set your rates, build studio relationships, and market yourself in a way that actually reflects who you are. The whole path — from philosophy to payroll — is here.

If you're ready to stop practicing in the back of the room and step to the front, I'm ready to teach you everything I know about how to do it well. Come in.
