Gary R Uremovich MS DMin PhD PA (Emeritus)

If you've ever told yourself "I really should move more" — and then not quite managed it — I want you to know something: that's not a willpower problem. It's a knowledge and structure problem. And it's exactly why I built Walk Well.

I know what it feels like to look at the fitness world and feel like it wasn't made for you. The high-intensity classes, the expensive gym memberships, the Instagram reels of people who already look like they've been exercising since birth. Walking never got the spotlight — and yet, for most of us, it's the single most sustainable, accessible, and genuinely life-changing form of movement there is. I've seen it transform energy levels, ease anxiety, help people sleep properly for the first time in years, and quietly rebuild confidence after illness or a long stretch of inactivity. I wanted to give it the school it deserves.

What you'll find here is practical, honest, and completely free of jargon. We start with technique — because the way you walk actually matters more than most people realise, and small adjustments to your posture, stride, and pacing can dramatically change how a walk feels and what it does for your body. We move through gear, safety, and injury prevention (because the last thing you need is a blister derailing your momentum), and we spend serious time on building a plan that fits your real life — not some idealised version of it with three free hours every morning.

I also want you to feel the mental shift that walking can bring. The stress-reduction, the better sleep, the clarity you get from a walk that's truly intentional rather than just a commute. That stuff is real, it's backed by research, and it's woven throughout this school. The mindful walking lessons in particular are something I'm genuinely excited for you to try.

You don't need to be sporty. You don't need a fitness tracker or trail-running shoes. You just need to be ready to start where you are, move forward at your own pace, and trust that those daily steps — walked a little more wisely — really can change your health. I'll be right there beside you. Let's go.
