Turn your child into a confident reader — one quest at a time
An adventure-based phonics school built on the Oxford Wordlist that turns early readers into confident decoders — through interactive quests, animated comics, and printable home-school packs parents and teachers actually use.

Every child can crack the reading code — they just need the right quest, in the right order, with someone cheering them on.— Nisky

Quest Foundations: Sound It Out
Establishes the essential prerequisite phonemic awareness and letter-sound correspondence skills that underpin all later decoding. Students are introduced to the quest narrative, meet their Sound Knight characters, and build a secure foundation in individual phonemes before any blending is attempted. Oxford Wordlist high-frequency sounds are prioritised throughout.
- 1.1Meet the Sound Knights (s, a, t, p, i, n)Included
- 1.2Vowel Valley (Short a, e, i, o, u)Included
- 1.3Consonant Crew Assembles (m, d, g, o, c, k, e, u, r, h, b, f, l)Included
Blending Bridges: From Sounds to Words
With all core phonemes in place, students now learn the mechanical skill of blending — pushing sounds together to decode real words. Lessons move in a deliberate sequence: CVC blending first, then syllable segmentation for longer words, then consonant clusters and digraphs. This ordering ensures students always have a working decoding strategy before complexity is added.
- 2.1The Blending Bridge (CVC Word Decoding)Included
- 2.2Syllable Scouts (Segmenting Multi-Syllable Words)Included
- 2.3Consonant Cluster Crossing (Blends and Digraphs)Included
Word Wizards: High-Frequency Oxford Wordlist Sprint
Students now apply their decoding skills directly to Oxford Wordlist high-frequency words — the exact words they will encounter most in Australian decodable texts and everyday reading. The module distinguishes clearly between phonics-regular high-frequency words (decodable using learned strategies) and irregular 'tricky' words (which require partial decoding plus sight recognition). This distinction is pedagogically critical and missing from many curricula.
- 3.1Decodable Wordlist Words (Phonics-Regular High-Frequency Words)Included
- 3.2Tricky Word Traps (High-Frequency Irregular Words)Included
The Story Unlock: Connected Text Decoding
Students apply all accumulated phonics and word knowledge to read connected, phonetically controlled text for meaning. The module follows a deliberate three-step progression: decodable phrases (supported), a full sentence in a narrative context (the signature 'Story Unlock' digital comic experience with its treasure chest and badge), and repeated reading for fluency and expression. This sequencing ensures comprehension is always the endpoint, not merely accurate word calling.
- 4.1First Sentences (Reading Decodable Phrases in Context)Included
- 4.2The Story Unlock (Connected Text Decoding)Included
- 4.3Fluency Quest (Re-Reading for Speed and Expression)Included
Quest Map Mastery: Independent Reading and Progress Tracking
The final module consolidates all decoding strategies into independent, self-regulated reading practice. Students learn to monitor their own comprehension and decoding accuracy, celebrate their progress through the badge board and quest map, and are set up with habits and resources for continued reading growth beyond the curriculum. This module is deliberately placed last — self-monitoring requires all prior skills to be in place before it can be practised meaningfully.
- 5.1Self-Monitoring Readers (Check It, Fix It Strategies)Included
- 5.2Badge Board and Quest Map Celebration (Progress Review)Included
Who it's for
Is this you?
Prep parents
Your child just started school and you want a structured programme at home that matches — not muddles — what their teacher is doing.
Foundation-year teachers
You need a curriculum-aligned phonics resource with ready-made printables you can assign for homework or use as a classroom warm-up without extra prep.
Homeschooling families
You want a complete, sequenced phonics programme — Oxford Wordlist and all — that tells you exactly what to teach and gives you every resource to teach it.
Parents of reluctant readers
Your 5- or 6-year-old switches off the moment reading feels like work — the quest-based adventure keeps them leaning in instead of tuning out.
Early childhood educators
You support children across the 4–7 age range and need a flexible tool that scaffolds phonics from very first sounds all the way to fluent sentence reading.
Grandparent carers
You spend afternoons with your grandchild and want something simple, jargon-free, and genuinely fun you can do together without needing a teaching background.

Nisky
If you've ever watched a child stare at a page and freeze — willing the words to come but just not knowing how — you'll know exactly why I built Word Quest Phonics.
Reading isn't a mystery. It's a code. And when children are taught that code in the right order, with the right amount of encouragement, something magical happens: they stop guessing and start reading. That shift — from anxious to confident, from stuck to unstoppable — is what every lesson in this programme is designed to create.
Word Quest Phonics takes children through a clear, carefully sequenced path. We start with the six most useful sounds in the English language and build from there — short vowels, consonant blends, digraphs, high-frequency Oxford Wordlist words (both the ones that play by the rules and the tricky ones that don't), and finally full connected text that children can read aloud with real fluency and expression. Every step is grounded in systematic synthetic phonics — the approach that decades of reading research consistently supports.
But here's what I really care about: I wanted this to work at home, not just in a classroom. So every digital lesson comes with printable flashcards, decodable mats, and parent guides written in plain English — no jargon, no guesswork. You don't need a teaching degree to sit beside your child and help them practise. You just need the right tools, and Word Quest gives you all of them.
I also know that children need to want to keep going. That's why the whole programme is built as an adventure — quests to complete, Sound Knights to meet, a Badge Board to fill, and a Quest Map that shows children exactly how far they've come. Progress you can see is progress that motivates.
If you're a parent trying to give your child the best possible start, a prep teacher looking for something structured you can actually use, or a homeschooling family who wants a complete phonics programme without the overwhelm — this was made for you. Come and join the quest. Your child's reading story starts here.
