With all core phonemes in place, students now learn the mechanical skill of blending — pushing sounds together to decode real words. Lessons move in a deliberate sequence: CVC blending first, then syllable segmentation for longer words, then consonant clusters and digraphs. Students now apply their decoding skills directly to Oxford Wordlist high-frequency words — the exact words they will encounter most in Australian decodable texts and everyday reading.
